Bear80,

In the suggested Tool List for 80s thread (link below) you reccommended a "tabbed Dana 60/70 socket" as an alternative to the SSTs (54mm Hub Socket and Rear Axle Tool) - your quote is posted below (Post #30 from the thread).

<<<I've used the multi tabbed Dana 60/70 socket well over a dozen times on several Toyota 4x4s without any issues. I understand how you can round the nuts but it's due to improper use, not the socket. This socket can also be used on the 80's REAR hub nut. These sockets are cheaper than buying two Toyota SSTs and can be found at any parts store.>>>>

I have tried to find this particular socket online, but am only finding a Dana 60 socket from various sources or a Dana 70 socket from snap on (muey expensive). Based on your post, I understood there was a version that is a single socket for both Dana 60 and 70 and that is what you have found to work for both SST applications. Am I reading that correctly and can you point me in the right direction? I realize you said below you can find at any part store, but I recently drove all over town looking for another item that was recommended by someone as being readily available only to be told by NAPA, Autozone and O'Reilly that they can only order it. So I thought I would ask you first. If anyone else knows, chime in.

FWIW - this will be for front and rear axle rebuilds. I purchased some locking axles off of a wrecked '96 to install on my '97. My plan is to do a complete overhaul/rebuild of the locked axles while they are off the vehicle, repaint, rebuild brake rotors, etc then do the swap onto the vehicle.

I don't think you and I have met, but I have been a lurker for the past year and have been to a couple meetings and the recent wrench day. Hope to meet you in person some time.

James

Excellent and thanks for the prompt response. I was able to find a Napa part number - 7759025 and the item they show is the same as your picture.

I will pick one up this week. Thanks again.

Yeah, now that he has a killer H1

You can also use (properly) the 12-point Craftsman 3/4" drive 54mm socket for $28 or so. IIRC, you can notch it to work for the rear as well (and still work on the front)
