Does anyone have, or know if it's even possible to get, the dimensions of the 4x4 labs kit? I have all the metal in the world at my dispense, and the tools to cut/weld everything. I love that bumper and was trying to make something like it.
Thanks!
Ryan
There are 40 eleven club members with them. Just talk someone into coming over and take the measurements. I'll say this though, there are some nice radius bends you aren't going to replicate without a effing huge brake or something. There's a good reason Luke's kits cost what they do, they are worth it, having been involved with several builds and doing one for Emma's old 80.
Oh yea. No way my bends would look as good with a torch... I know I'm gonna end up buying it I just want to make an attempt at a homemade... I'll post pics if I ever make progress.
I've bought 2 kits from 4x4labs. The have a bending die and everything is laser cut and it's very nice. Mine are for a 60 but the main shell may be the same. I had the carrier built locally and bought the latch from Grainger. You can come look in Charlotte.
This one is for sale BTW, it is posted...
Anybody can duplicate fabricated metal products if they have the equipment to do so. You can take some functional design ideas from the labs bumper and build something that'll do the job but to get it to look so nice with that rolled edge would take a huge expensive machine. With a lot of time and a little ambition you can build something to be proud of that is a one of a kind product. Or you can get the labs bumper built within a day of having it out of the box and know exactly what your getting. In my opinion, daily driver=labs kit=100% added value to your rig.
Has lots of pics through the process, copying it would be a non issue as he isn't in the business of bumper making or selling them unlike 4x4labs that gets most of its money from bumper sales.
I obviously knew the exact labs bumper blue print wasn't going to be available. Idk why I worded it that way, it was late. I haven't had much fab background until this new job. I was just looking for a base to go off of. Going to check the links Al posted and then I'll go from there. Thanks for the input guys!!
Best thing to do is get yourself a couple of very large (Fridge, range, washe dryer) cardboard boxes and start mocking up bumpers with that. Start with the basic shape you want and then just play with the design until you com up with something you like. From there, you can then refine the cardboard pieces until you can use them as patterns to lay out the metal.
