So, i am a complete newbie to the Land Cruiser world. I grew up with all American V8's. But while living in Japan for the last decade I have fallen for these beauties... problem is, I don't know $hit about them. I've done plenty of research but due to my lack of Japanese I'm struggling to find parts for any project I want to do. I think the problem is knowing what "American" parts will work on my JDM. I'll have her back in the states 2018 or 2019 but would like to at least lift if before i ship it. If you have any advice or suggestions please let me know... i'm open to anything.

@divemedic has PZJ77 in the U.S. and might provide some insight.

iI'll check them out! Thank you! I noticed you're in Thomasville, I have a house in Valdosta. Might possibly end up settling there in a few years.

I guess the answer is that there are not a ton of U.S. specific "parts" manufacturers for 70 series.
Since the series never ran in the U.S. but is sold new in other parts of the world you'll notice most of the parts manufacturers are in other places; it so happens that many of these are based out of Australia; but not exclusively. Based out of in most cases does not mean produced in or "hecho in australia", most stuff is now "hecho en china/taiwan, etc"

If you need a lift you'll need to get one of these manufacturers.

My PZJ77 has Old Man Emu Shocks and Dakkar Leaf Springs (Dakkar as far as I know is owned by ARB who also owns OME ).

There are other interesting brands out there including Dobinsons, Ironman (that gets flak in the states but actually make good stuff), etc.

You've bough a beautiful but specialized vehicle; US suppliers will be getting items imported 8 times out 10, that's just the 70s market if you're in 'MERICA.

I'm in the conversation now. I'll pm you my recommendations fully.

There are no "American" parts that will work. Some parts cross over to parts that are sold by your toyota dealer that came on other US Spec Toyota vehicles. some parts you can get through aftermarket suppliers like land cruiser parts and consulting, cruiseroutfitters, sor, etc, and the like. others you can order from overseas etc. You will need to figure out how to work on it unless you happen to live next to cruiser specific shop that knows diesels or be prepared to pay and have a 50-50 shot it's done right.

what actual help is needed?

Hello,

Welcome to the madness.

Sourcing parts in the US for a 70 Series is not as complicated as it used to be.

eBay Australia is good for parts as well, provided that shipping costs are reasonable.

There is a sticky thread on US available 70 Series parts.

When they use to import JDM landcruisers into Australia, an inspector told me the 1st thing they made owners do was strip off any aftermarket Japanese suspension before it could be licensed in Australia. I know there is one company in Japan at least that do make good stuff, but most of it was rubbish and more for looks.
This was in the days when they use to fit those long skinny anodised blue or pink shackle extensions:princess:
