been reading/learning about landcruisers for almost a year - finally drove my first LC today - 82 diesel BJ60 - 3B. my wife and I loved it . the fact that she is excited for us to get one is the best part...she thought it would be big / hard to drive - but it was great.

BUT:

vehicle is for sale. $8000.00

See photos: not sure if it's worth having professionals look at it further. seems like the only thing making it worth more than the average rusted out and poorly cared for LC is that it's a diesel - otherwise it's a mess!

very very few records other than oil changes. truck sits 11 months out of the year - but does get taken out on road trips once per year and seller says it's totally reliable. the glove compartment has receipts for oil changes - little else. recent work was fuel lines/fuel filter/glow plugs

truck has a little over 400 klicks (250,000 miles)

I'm asking what the LC community thinks of this - is this rust fixable?

Would anyone actually try to restore this - or am I crazy? totally talking out my ass - but it seems like the truck needs many many thousands to make road worthy? how much does it cost to fix this much cancer + the fact that it was originally red - but appears to have been rattle canned blue.

would it be worth trying to scoop it for like 5k and sink 10 more into it?

interior was a rats nest - spray painted dash black - with overspray on the metal parts.

8 grand... I would offer 4

Overall all, it's in bad shape. The rust is pretty far along and it is easily 2-3k in work. Only positive is the 3B, but that is not much considering it's barely suited for a 40 something significantly smaller. Not bashing the 3B guys, but the H diesel is a better option.

4 is tops for me.

thanks guys. that's what my instincts tell me as well...wanted to hear from folks who've been down this road already.

i've bought and sold plenty of older rigs - (toyota and otherwise) so i'm not afraid of putting money into a good truck...i'm trying hard to remain objective about the whole thing...i really want a diesel LC and they show up so rarely - i'd hate to pass on a truck and not get the chance for a long time.

but the main question - is this much cancer fixable at all? frame looked OK - but body is a mess. would any of you embark on this journey - or just find a nicer gas burner and convert it later?

They weren't offered in us. So if ur in the us getting parts it will be $$$ more so, than how $$$ old toyota parts are to begin with. Plus agree that kind of condition I wouldn't pay more than 4K

I would lean for this rig being an engine donor rig only, if that helps. A 2B alone is worth under 2k, maybe +1K for the 5 speed tranny. I am guessing it only has the 4 speed..

Diesel or not, as others have said...if the interior is that bad, you'll be spending some coin getting that sorted after you tackle the rust which has eaten through

I'd pass, even as a donor just for engine, trans, looks to be only thing you'd be working with

I have a beautiful condition HJ 61 that you should really check out. Only 21k cdn so about 15k usd.

All fluids changed recently. 118 k miles. Super clean interior. Im on the West coast of Canada in BC
