So I’m still stalled out on some interior stuff I should be focusing on dealing with each hurdle as they come so back to the front end stuffs.

The shock mounts are wonky and the shocks are mounted very strangely from side to side, Don asked me to address it and change all four shocks.

Without boring you with all the details I don’t like this is the biggest concern, the driver’s side has no bump stop and 2” of shock travel before it bottoms out, passenger’s side has 3”. Not that this would ever be good on an off road vehicle but really bad on a single shear lower mount so we are going to change this at the same time we do a cut and turn.

This may not be the best shock for you but these are the shocks we are using.

Rear shock KYB 344090

Front shock KYB 344447

KYB Excel-G shocks feature a nitrogen gas-charged twin-tube design and are designed to restore your vehicle's original capabilities. Excel-G is made on the same KYB OE assembly lines, uses the same OE quality components and is calibrated to compensate for worn suspensions to restore original, designed performance.

Just FYI:
The KYB 344090 rear is called out for the 40 series (2 door) rear application
compressed length: 14.09"
stroke length: 8.86"

KYB says stock replacement for a 55 (4 door) is rear 344015 and don't have a listing for the front on a 55.
compressed length: 13.3"
stroke length: 9.06"

But I'll assume you've already measured and know what you want. Rock auto listings with prices

Just a reasonably priced shock that's black and most important to the Toyota nerds...
  • Restores the designed control and handling of your Japanese truck

For me they are a good bang for the buck, I could pay three times as much for a yellow twin tube shock with a cool sticker on the side ..

So then the question is - what is the best and most optimal wiring route to get voltage to the rear of the vehicle?
1) Through the firewall and down along the passenger side sill plates
2) Underneath along the bottom of the tub then back through one of the grommets leading into the passenger side rear quarter panel
3) Other?
3) Other; through the firewall, up the "A" pillar, along the roofline above the doors

Didn't see this earlier, yes these shocks will work on this pig. If someone wanted to order shocks for their lifted pig they should take eye to eye measurements for their setup.
Good catch if I wasn't clear before.

How close do you think the front pumpkin or u-joint is to the oil pan on full bump?
The bound up shackle deal and the 2" of shock travel I don't know if I can test that even if I take it on the fork lift obstacle course..
I have quite a few problems to work through before I can address that one.

Depending on which LS, that motor is 100-200lbs lighter than the mighty 2F. Is that causing the geometry to be off?
We got two batteries, A/C, Power steering and what ever nicety's they crammed in there I bet we are close..

Chrome handles day..

If you have your handles re-chromed be prepared to drill and tap all the threaded holes and ream the through holes. These handles must have had some deep pitting and took some extra copper plating to fill.
I had to do quite a bit of hand fitting to get the push buttons to fit in the openings.

They look and work fantastic now! A few things to locate and I should be able to get these doors and tailgate wrapped up.

I didn't have that problem with mine, for a change. Don't forget a box of band-aids when you put those door handles in.
Don ordered the "show" Chrome and they laid it on thick, possibly the nicest pot metal handles chromed I've seen, I've used the same guys before but never paid the extra for the show chrome and it is better than their standard job.

I had to file the plungers to get the push buttons to move through the retainers and chipped a section off.
It's was .017" thick on that section, I felt like the holes were all about .030" small so that would make sense.

I forgot how much fun the rear door handles are to put in, I think I made up some new cuss words today!
