It's 7 miles from the tire shop to the house. Every time they install new tires I come home, loosen and retorque everything.

Tire rotations are done at the house as part of the oil change service.

Point being, that 97 lb/ft torque value wasn't just pulled out of someone's butt.

Update - just to close the loop. The shop replaced the rotors....smooth braking now. No clue as to root cause...prob just a "bad rotor"
