Does anyone have experience pulling (and stopping) heavy trailered loads with a 100 series? Specifically I have a new (to me) boat and am considering a 100 as a tow vehicle. Any insight?

the member formerly known as steve pulled southerncruisers boat to the coast and said it did great!
from the perspective of an experienced tower but new to 100 and boat combo

Yeah, and that is a heavy boat too. I've towed it with my 2500 diesel (which handled it easily), but I will say it is considerably heavier than my 21' center console which is around is around 4k with the trailer.

Thanks for the input. A friend and I went to OI and pulled it with his new Tundra...7.8 mpg (ouch!) Not sure what I am going to end up with, just coming to realize that the 80 won't do it without putting a TON of money in it.

7.8??? woah!! What kind of boat do you have? Weight? Really curious there. Of course, my boat is considerably lighter than me towing my 40 on the car hauler (a little more than 50%), but I get worse mileage towing the boat. I'm assuming this is aerodynamics at work, but I still get 10-11 at worst. I get 11-13 pulling my cruiser. But, with diesel prices where they are, 7.8 is pretty comprable costwise - of course I can hardly tell there's anything behind me!!

I know...its a Sailfish 218 pretty big V center console. Not sure of the weight but will pull out my paperwork and post up. 7.8 to the other side of Nags Head makes for an expensive trip. We could have chartered for that.

FYI: I got better mileage with my wife's Suburban when I went and picked it up.

If you want something that has plenty of room and is made to haul, id suggest a burban or excursion.

If you want a yota i'd suggest a tundra

If it was me i'd only go diesel though.

I agree about the diesel but can't really justify one for just pulling the boat. Back when I had an F250 7.3 and diesel was .50 cheaper per gallon that regular gas, I didn't know how good things really were...hindsight, who knew?

I bought my dually when diesel was 56 cents a gallon. 20 bucks would about fill up the truck. I also remember when it hit over 5.50 a gallon. It is getting back up there again now. 3.50 a gallon around here.

And i am getting ready to drop 22,000 on a diesel tractor.
