I know the good ole PTO's are fairly popular with the Cruiserheads. Hey I am a bit of a Cruiserhead myself and like PTO's.

I have always hated one thing about a JDM factory PTO set up be it from a 1960's truck or a 1990's truck and that is...

How friggin' far they stick out in front of the front of the body! Not only does it kill your approach angle it looks really bad to me.

Now I have seen me some Cruiser PTO winches, however I am very familiar with the Nissan Patrol PTO winches. And from what I have seen they are very similar, I mean very similar.

I modified the PTO winch on my mid-1980s Nissan Patrol to suck it back up against the #1 cross member. It worked the treat and brought the winch back by at least 8" if not more.

The process was simple. Enlarge the hole in the #1 cross member for the PTO shaft, since now the u-joint would be sitting in the #1 cross member. Cut it with a plasma and sleeve it with a piece of pipe and weld up. Chop the PTO shaft and shorten it, sleeve it and weld all up. Make winch cage to suit the PTO and it's new location. Drill holes through frame rails for winch cage mounting and sleeve holes with pipe. Install.

I have used the PTO winch at least a dozen times since these mods were done and have had zero problems with it.

Keyed to suit and built a special wrench to get in there for the sheer pin.

Since these pictures were taken I have cut a new hole in the winch cage to spool off the bottom of the winch drum. The PTO box (at least on a Patrol) has straight cut gears so it really doesn't matter much which way it drives since it is the same in rev. as in forward. The tow points have also been beefed up a lot.

Again, a Cruiser is very similar and I see no reason why a guy couldn't do the same thing on a Cruiser. Probably has...

Any ways just thought I would share...
