Should have bought a Jeep
Yep, a Pioneer CA9015. The only replacement offered by rockauto, amazon, o'reilly, etc.
I usually wouldn't bother writing this, but I assumed it would be better than my cracked and worn oem cable. I ended up taking out the oem cable and thought it would be wise to cut it open to see how bad it actually was. It is amazingly beefy - thick coiled steel wall, teflon or some other polymer coating on the wire, fairly smooth operation (though my mind was telling me it would be improved with a new cable). Well, that was a terrible idea to cut open. The Pioneer replacement cable not only wouldn't fit on the throttle body (not enough free length on the cable end) but the actual cable was loose in the jacket and super gritty. I tried oiling it, no improvement. It was incredibly bound up when put through the firewall and the outer diameter of the jacket was too small to "snap in" to the cable retainers in the engine bay.
So, there I was, without a functional accelerator cable. I had to order an OEM toyota one. $130 from the dealership since I need it for this weekend. Got it in tonight. No noticeable improvement over the "worn out" cable. But back to a functional state.
Ugh.
If someone googles this in the future, my only hope is that they don't stupidly order the Pioneer CA9015 and end up trying to fix something that probably isn't broke.
And before anyone whines and says "always go OEM" I will say that I don't believe that to always be true, but I have to concede that's the case here.
