I wanted to put this here in case anyone else is stumped like me. I had a metal on metal clanking sound come from the back of my truck especially when rocking side to side. My son sat in the rear and pointed to the jack area. At first look i couldn't figure it out, but eventually i found that the bottle jack housing has a sort of rubber band hanging from the right side with a metal hook on the end. I am guessing that it's meant to secure the jack in the holder? Once I shook that hook it sure made the same sound when hitting the inside of the rear bodywork.

Also note that the jack is held in place with a little pressure from the jack itself (by extending the jack within the holder/housing). If someone removed the jack and replaced it, they may have left the jack in the lowest position. If you turn the jack to raise it a bit - you can get a "snug" fit inside the holder/housing.

Yes, my jack was extended. So i was pretty baffled as to where the sound was coming from. I thought that something fell into that area but it's nearly impossible to see or reach in to feel around without removing the jack support. I was actually thinking of removing it to have a better look and that is when i saw the rubber strap and hook.
