For those who still remember/know about my 1982 FJ-40 in Indonesia. My brother wants to bring this over to Columbus, OH. It will be painted flat black (no more meticulously-applied, ultra wet-look Sikkens pink pearl), have aftermarket front fender flares installed and the small issues would be attended before shipping over. It has a freshened 2F (w/ 270deg cam) with no smog equipment whatsoever. And, no heater. It has a long list of mods including ARB lockers on both ends. It will stay RHD.

At any rate, I'm interested in finding what will be needed to register the vehicle. Also, to equip it with proper gear for cold-weather driving (apart from the obvious anti-freeze in the coolant). How do I get a heater for it ?

Any other things I should take care of/watch out for ?

Many thanks in advance.

Tom,
I think that a foreign citizen is allowed to import one non-USA vehicle to the states for their own personal use. That's how Henry Cubillan brought his venezuela-spec FJ62 to the USA.

Search 'Mud for importing info.

And installing a heater into a 74-later FJ40 should be a bolt-in. You'll need the fan assembly (underhood) and the heaterbox (inside) and some hoses and bolts. No biggie, plenty of rusted out parts trucks have that stuff. It's being sold on Ebay for no money all the time.

Jim,

Thanks. I will have to look into that. I already know that importing a 25-year-old vehicle is much easier due to the lack of emission requirement. Is Henry Cubillan local ?

If you have a tittle,
I can only tell you when bringing in my 1980 from Utah, I needed the title and a vin tag that they could kind of read and $35.
That was all. The title will be the hard one I think.
Dave
