Postponed...HAMOM FZJ80 axle swap-May 11...
After dealing with my immediate need, I'm postponing my request. Thanks to all who volunteered, I'll request again later.
Looking for help. Without trying to sound too pathetic, timing of my rotator cuff surgery seems to bring out the best of circumstances. Sorry for short notice, looked at the calendar to avoid conflicts.
Long story short...Registration due on FZJ80, inspection says E-brake not sufficient, take it home, Regina helps me adjust but they appear to be frozen. Tightened the "star" wheel, it took up cable slack but can't budge the E-brake. I've hit them a couple times with PBlaster, hit them with a hammer, used a pry-bar and can't get them free.
Dilemma...take the time to un-freeze the rusted E-brake assembly left handed (still in my shoulder sling, not cleared to use right arm) with Regina (not the strongest mechanical aptitude) to get it inspected and registered, only to perform the axle swap later this summer when I recover
or
do the e-locker axle and the PT, regeared t-case swap with the help of my loyal club members [@ss kissing now mode on] now and not waste the time fixing something I'll tear down later regardless.
I'd like to propose hosting a HAMOM (I don't know that I'm a "member of the month" being as absent as I have been) on May 11th, at my home in yuppie Cary. I can't host multiple vehicles being worked on this time, I need to be aware of my HOA rules and restrictions.
I'm not physically capable right now and will be limited in my ability to work. I have a fully stocked garage, the front axle is completely rebuilt, rear axle is torn down, ready for 3rd to be dropped in and assembled with new parts, t-case is on the bench awaiting tear-down.
I'll do my best to limp through the rest of the rear axle before then as well as get the t-case torn down and cleaned up, hopefully converted to PT and the Marlin gears installed. I may need to ask someone to TIG the diff, something I was looking forward to doing but may need to yield the task, depending how my shoulder is by then.
I've got all the wiring and parts on hand, will provide plenty of grilled food, beverages and off-road videos on the garage TV.
If I were a mechanical beast like Eric, I'd do it myself like he did, just take twice as long doing it one handed. Yet, I'm not as smart and mechanically inclined as he is so I'm begging for help.
Please post up if available. I have one bedroom for out of town guests, kids will return home from college this week also so their rooms are "booked". I'll provide any/all details as we get closer.
Thanks...
