IIRC from previous reading of the forum, the 2003 and on came out with wiring for the brake controller, and I doubt the 2000 has it wired in ready for a hookup, also the link you posted only says 2003-2006

Well That's what I got from reading too, Just wondering if anyone has retrofitted this plug to work with an 02 or older. I do have the 4 pin connector with a hitch, would I be better off to just take it to the dealer?

I don't think either that a 2000 has the brake controller connector under the dash.
It's not very difficult to wire a controller if you have a basic knowledge of electrical wiring. It's a pain, though, to have to run wires, splice them, etc. Count on a half-day if you have all the parts ready.
You will have to supplement your 4 pin trailer connector somehow to run brakes.

I doubt a dealer would touch adding a brake controller. It's not OEM wiring. You are better off taking it to a trailer/RV place.

I had a Haymen Reece controller put in by ARB. From what you are saying there is an easy access to the wiring for this device. They did not use "the plug under the dash". They ran new wires from the battery to the back, using their own colour scheme! I may have to relook at this as I am not 100% sure that the brake controller is working as it should. I can't get the trailer brakes to lock up, and I am not sure that the syncro setting on the controller is working as it should.

Hijack for dinibili

The 2003 Australian LC did not come with the brake controller wiring, but that should have changed by now, have a look under the right rear and find where your trailer connector plugs in, unplug it and look at the plug on the vehicle wiring loom(not the one going to the trailer) and see if it has seven pins, if it does it should have a connector hidden up under the dash for a brake controller to plug into.
The other reason ARB and others wire them directly themselves is they don't want to chase every different make and model for plugs and sockets and adapter harnesses etc etc, so they wire them directly in. This can be good if done correctly, as the wire they use should be be bigger than what is in the harness, therefore less voltage drop.
If you can't get your brakes to lock up, check you controller settings and set it to maximum output and drive along and use the manual slide and give it max braking. If they don't lock up then do some work on your trailer brakes. Always adjust your trailer brakes up before setting your controller up.

I can't get the brakes to lock with the manual control, no matter where I set the output or sync. The towed vehicle is new (1000km Tvan) and weighs about 1 tonne. The factory re adjusted the brakes and didn't seem to make much difference. The trailer won't hold the vehicle on about a 10 degree slope with the manual control. The service bloke at Track Trailers didn't think that the brakes should be able to hold the vehicle stationary or be able to lock the brakes, which I am sure is incorrect.
