i ordered xd-21230 direct from aussie locker for my 73 fj40 and my mechanic says it wont work like i got the wrong model or something. something about the "thrust plate" or something. what is he talking about and what is up with a aussie locker install?

What about the "thrust washers"?

Thrust washers are a sacrificial that essentially keeps your locker side plates (or side gears for ooen diffs) from chewing up your diff housing and act as a spacer. Only issue ive seen with these is sideplates that are too thick when you put the thrust washer on and protrude too far. Is this what your tech is saying?

Is the center gap distance with-in spec. .145 - .170? If not you might need a different size thrust washer. I've put three of these in (Aussie Locker) and everyone has been within spec. We need a little more info from your mechanic.

Hi All:

I agree with Shark56, this is not a difficult installation if following the supplied instructions.

If the center gap distance is not within spec then thicker or thinner thrust washers should be available from Toyota (Cruiser Dan at American Toyota in Albuquerque should be able to source these parts.)

Good luck!

Alan

i to have put in a couple of these with no problems, one in my 4runner, and one in my buddies 40, both went in smoothly and have held up well.

maybe its time for a better mechanic :meh:

or read a few installs and try it your self there not that hard to install.

it was a spacer aussie forgot to send with the kit. aussie overnighted it to us! great service!

Did you contact Torq-masters inc. ? The aussie's come through them here in the USA.
