JohnnyC you should come out and check out Arizona....easy living here;). BTW I had no idea your rig was at 500K, amazing!!!!!

After all the work over the years and battling the rust, and continuing to do so, would you still choose steel or would you go aluminum or fiberglass for a tub if you were to do it again?

Really depends on use ... The tub itself is still great... Except where I left the Oem steel ... The 1/8" floors are 3/16" sides are holding up really well... I do always like aluminum ... But... It's expensive

my tub is glass but it do not help for the rest of the chassis

Yeah the chassis I spray "open lube" it's like a spray grease for open diffs/gears... Try to spray it lots of places :)

Did not know that :)

Being on the nyc and Nassau border do you remember 'Ideal toy corp' on Hollis I think ... my grandmother worked there for 30? Years (factory worker) ... My father as well (in his youth) ... He fixed the returned toys :)

Quite a few Christmases we were opening presents were Ideal toys... Space shoes were cool and this plastic spaceship that you would spin really fast :)

I do remember the Ideal toy corp on Hollis it was a land mark for many years until they closed down back in 1997now the land has been reclaimed.

The last time I was there was back in 2011 and it's amazing how things had changed in Queens over the years, if I were to return today I probably wouldn't recognize it, Jamaica, Hollis, Queens Village, now all appear to be over populated and commercialized what ever happened to the residential neighborhoods?

The Ideal toy co. building is now occupied by a a self storage company Google Maps

went last night to get the truck inspected (yep one of those guys who wait for the last minute... LOL )

it FAILED :(

it was the lower front shock bushing was loose LOL ... took it home to fix... turns out the castle nut was striped and backed out... stopped by the cotter pin... had a locknut the correct size , tightened it down .... today I went on lunch to have a reinspection and it now PASSED

I do feel much safer now :)

This whole Christmas thing puts a slow down on cruiser work lol

Merry Christmas everybody ...

Hope you guys do better than me... This will be yet another year of (predicting) ... gloves, socks and "in the red" :meh:

Nothing says Christmas like angle chimes ... Nativity sets and gluten free, vegan, non gmo, dairy free 1800's eyebrow window 1 and 1/2 story gingerbread houses :)

Usually I am making it just gluten free...

My wife and kids are the gluten free ones... The wife's side is all the other stuff lol and I'm the 1800's colonial :)

Really hoping for a card from Santa ... that reads "you get 5 hrs uninterrupted time to work on your cruiser" :)

Again.... Merry Christmas enjoy your time with the family !!!

Merry Christmas to you and your family, Johnny. Gee, no snow yet? :)

well my power steering gear has been leaking since 2012 :meh:

about 6 months ago one thing lead to another and i forgot to put in PS fluid and ran it dry for several months.... finally found a good used PS gear @kevos37 (a big THANKS!!!) now I can rebuild my current one as a spare :)

come to find out it takes ATF and NOT PS Fluid... however i had been running it with PS fluid for 18 or so years that i put it on... so i used the recommended ATF this time since it was empty anyway LOL

Put it in .....and..... nothing... no PS

I blew the PS pump :bang: (i am so stupid sometimes)

that was two days ago

this morning i got in and turned the wheel .... :steer: the power was back... i had power steering!!!!

just topped it off alil more this morning as well, must have been a big air pocket

so the things I learned
1) Toyota parts a quite durable
2) replacing a PS box pre fill the lines
3) use ATF in toyota PS pumps
4) mini truck rag joint/cuppler is not the same as TLC

I probably did do some damage to the pump... we'll see how long it lasts :meh:

Thats what I was think too, air pocket.

Whats the difference between PS and ATF. When I was a kid on the farm it was always ATF in the PS. But today I seem the question everything we used to do. :meh:

I like ATF and seems to be a better fluid than regular ole PS fluid. I mean its red and looks a little thicker and it smells better. :hillbilly:

This makes me want to go out and change mine to ATF and while Im at it new hoses, cause they are getting dry rot.

I was 5 years old in 74' ... my truck was brand new... it would have looked like this... If i placed plaster all over a brand new land cruiser and was playing in paster and then left a hand print LOL

I guarantee my Mother would not say "not my little johnny" ... I met my dad's belt a few times... just not for doing that at least :meh:

LOL. I was 5 when my 66 (10/65) was brand new. Since we were both 5, that makes us the same age-right?Unfortunately your artistic talents in 74 exceed my present skills ( I'm struggling with 'left' and 'right', so hand prints are out of the question). Thanks for the perspective!
BTW I can't relate to "the belt" comment, given my Angelic qualities, WWII Marine father, etc….;) Just saying...

getting our 3D printer to actually print and do something other than being a brick in my room...

We are getting decent results now and are able to swap out and use colors other that green and white ... not the best quality .... yet... but we have some of the brightest of engineers as well as the freshest minds working on it now :)

As snowless as its been it's still been cold ... Too cold to keep the cruiser clean it seems... Maybe in a month I'll feel like cleaning off the greasy hand/fingerprints

Just changed the power steering pump to reservoir o-ring so I actually cleaned it a bit ... It was looking worse

Every time I think about cleaning the truck I can hear a buddy's voice saying "why you gona do that ... It's a land cruiser"

Maybe later I'll even clean the atf off the driveway :)

Because every time I think about leaving a puddle on the driveway I know I'll hear from the :princess: "why did you leave that there?"

Man too many voices :meh:

Still waiting to finish this new top up... It's been very slow going... Started well before winter... Maybe I'll finish before retirement in 9 years

It is modeled after the rear door of a folding bow oem fst truck and the seven window canvas

It's an 8 window with Johnny Door

Sunbrella marine canvas

Pics of where I'm at right now as well the the Johnny Door open and closed ... A friend from work coined it as I also go by Johnny outside of mud and it looks a bit out of place like Johnny sticking his head thru a door :)

Or was he referring to the fact that the voices argue in my head :meh:

Either way it works for me lol

:)
