Well I started my 67 today and heard a clunk and rattling up front. I shut it down and opened the hood to see my crank pulley off of the crank. Can a get a new or used pulley anywhere? the inside of the pulley is slightly grooved. I can slide the pulley on and off very easy. What should I do or am I screwed?

I,v know some people have Bought a larger key and have filed out to a "T" shape key the large side on the pulley,

I just bought a new one...years ago

I recently had to address this issue myself on my F135 after Marv noticed it was loose. I got a used one from him that was in very good shape (no groove) but it wasn't cheap. When I did get around to pulling it, it was not very tight and came off without effort. Needless to say I dodged a bullet. What you really need to be worried about is wether the crankshaft is worn. If that is the case even a new pulley and keyway won't solve your problem for long.

If that's what you find I have heard of two solutions:

1. Use JB Weld and don't look back (I'm not too fond of this idea).

2. Tap some threads into the front of the crank (there's already a hole) and use a hormonic balancer nut and bolt from a chevy (from summit or anywhere else) to hold it in place. This one provides for removal in the future. I was planning on this before mine worked out well.

I replaced the front seal and cover gaskets (#27 and #29) below while in there and checked all the gears. Use a new keyway too. I lucked out in that the pulley fit the shaft like new without any modifications.

Good luck!

well I found my spare pulley and it looks like it is in great shape. I was running a double pulley y but never used the second pulley for anything so I'll give it a shot and hope for the best.

I got the newer balancer put on and it's pretty tight. The harmonic balancer does wobble a bit. Can anyone measure the distance between the HB and the timing cover? I need to make sure it's on as far as it can go.

I'm no expert but it should have absolutely no wobble. It will come off and you won't have a water pump anymore which would lead to overheating, etc.

EDIT: Also be sure there is no side to side play when you spin it back and forth.

I'm not certain what measurement you want but it's pretty hard to get to when the radiator is installed as mine is.

Take a look at my tag line for my buildup. On the second page there is a break down of a later model crank pulley and HB.

I'm looking for a measurement from the back of the HB to the front of the timing cover. Just to make sure I have the pulley and HB all the way onto the crank. Thanks guys.

Best I can do is give you an eyeball measurement. ;)
