Good afternoon,

I had a 2013 lexus lx 570 with 86,000 miles pre-inspected. It has a great service history record and all work completed at lexus dealership. Just had a pre-inspection completed at toyota dealership. I made sure they put a master tech on the inspection. The last oil change was completed at 85,000 miles. Toyota tech noted that it was low one quart. No evidence of oil leaks. Should I walk away from this lx 570? Are these engines known as oil consumption issues?

What if they didn't fill it completely last time?

If there are no signs of a leak. I'd guess that they changed the oil to the spec for no filter change vs. filter change. This is roughly a half a quart. The engine hold 7.9 quarts.

Regarding the oil level - if you purchase the car have the oil changed at a Toyota dealership or do it yourself. Peace of mind. If they didn't put enough in, you wont know if they used the right spec oil.

also, dirty air filter and

right side map light were burned out.

cabin filter was changed out at last service at lexus dealership in feb 2018.

I would not worry about the oil down 1 quart. Sounds like a clean car.

LX570 engine (and the truck in general) is very reliable. The engine does not have any, to my knowledge, issues with oil consumption.

When you check the dip stick, what color is the oil?

I didn’t personally check the oil. I am not local to the Lexus. It is five hours away. The local Toyota dealership noted it. There are no close by Lexus dealerships to where the lx is located. I have inquired to selling dealerships service department to why they only filled it to the minimum. What type of oil did they use. What spec oil.

LX570 3URFE is a terrible engine. Worst engine that Toyota has ever made. Its loud too, since it is chain driven and has air pump issues for emissions and that could easily set you back $3500. Also, cam tower leaks are common.

srcsm.

Thanks for the scare. I have searched high and low.

Just had my 30k service done at Lexus, had them provide me all the use filters, oil, engine air and cabin air. I alway check the oil level before I drive away, it was at the bottom of the full range versus the top. Had the Forman add another qt. I alway check everything. Had a Lexus dealer in Atlanta forget to put oil in my wife's ES300 on the 90k service.

Seems like a good check and balance to make sure they do requested services.

So, the service tech at the mercedes/bmw dealership who changed the oil stated they will add additional quart of oil The oil spec is Ow20, bmw twin power. Does that mobil one make the bmw twin power.

I'd add my own oil to top it off at this point. I don't want to call someone on the carpet and then entrust my engine to them.

Also, check for any hairline cracks on the top of the radiator around the square where the part number is stamped. Many a tech is unaware that these are a weak spot. Being a 2013 the radiator is most likely still in good shape though.
