I've searched the threads here and not found what I am looking for. I have a 91 Prado and the factory CD player is crap. I have yanked it out, but my new CD player will not work correctly. I had the Cd player and tape deck, a harness ran from the tape deck to the CD player. I prefer to also remove the tape deck. I bought a wiring harness and dash pocket. The wiring harness I purchased fits the two plugs in the dash (not the stereo/tape deck plug), and my CD player will turn on and play but I get no sound. I removed the glove box, doesn't seem to be any amp in there. The stereo harness I bought has two plugs, one with purple and green speaker wires (this plugs into the red, yellow, black, and white wire harness in the dash - seems odd), and the other harness fits the plug with a whole multitude of colours and stripes on the wires. I have no intention of snipping wires in the dash, that's why I bought a wiring harness, but I can if I can manage to understand the wiring here. The plug that originally fit the tape deck has wires of all colours, not really corresponding to your traditional wiring colours for stereos. I can't seem to find a wiring diagram anywhere. Help anyone?

The amps are behind the rear passenger side panel. The wiring is a real mess. I tried to have a professional installer work on mine but he eventually said that he'd rather just bypass the amps and run new speaker wires. Didn't do it yet but have been considering it.

Crushers this past weekend told me he has some adapters which will by pass the amps right at the main harness for the LJ78. If your's is a double plug harness then I suspect this is what he has ... won't work for mine as my KZJ78 only has a single plug harness. I'll wait to see what Wayne comes back with and post here.

In the reading that I have done, most have just rewired.

Good luck.

Well I had the same problem in my LJ78. No diagrams. What I figuredwas that mine was wired for a Toyota premium stereo with amps in the back right by the jack. There was a small plug up at the stereo and a corresponding plug at the fwd amp in the rear. My truck came with a JVC in it already, so i had an adapter plug that fit the small single plug. I used a multimeter and wrang out the wires from fron to back and hooked up to the speakers coming out of the amp. You see the plug on the amp is a standard toyota radio plug that you can get an adapter for. In fact you can plug a standard Toy radio into the plugs that go into the amp. I did this with a stereo out of a toy pickup. I still want to work on a way to use the stock amps with my JVC, but maybe that's nutty.

My KZJ78 was wired for factory amps, but previous owned cut it all out.
Just started again and wired from scratch. Easiest way in the end.
I managed to put my amps in the side panels in the rear where I beleve the factory amp was.
