Hey guys! I was looking for the "cargo-area-solutions" thread but couldn't find any..

Here are some pictures of my home-made system.. What do you think?

The drawers stop around 20 cm from the inner end and there is a closed speaker-box... i had plans for a woofer in front of it playing into the rear-seats.. but in the end i just went for som 6X9's

There are hinged lids on both sides.

Budget: about 80 usd for the wood + 30 for the carpet(IKEA) and 40 for the "fence"(junkyard)...

Now i can basically have my trunk full of stuff and still have a clean looking trunk-area... I'll paint the rear end eventually..And don't look at the nasty headliner.. a new one is coming!

I like it but would want to make mine a little shorter to allow for more stacking room

It looks well thought out and done right. Very practical. Good job. You should post a write-up for future people who might like to do it. Dimensions help people as well.

I really like that barrier. It looks sweet in there.

Martin,

That looks nice. I like the height you made it. You able to have passengers in your back seat and pay the higher taxes? I need to check in at the NLCK site.

thanx.. Yeah.. maybe i should take some more detailed pictures..But it's really very simple..then again I am a proffesional builder/joiner and my friend the carpenter helped me:hhmm:

I'll see if i can get time to make a more detailed recipie..

Hey Isbjørn!:)

I can have people in my back seat... no extra taxes:hhmm: I'm not sure i know what you mean... On some new cars we can get a conciderable "tax-discount" on the price if we go for green plates and only front seats..But this is only when the car is bought new and we can't change it back and forth. The yearly taxes/costs of owning the car is the same..
Some 60's were sold like that here... but after ten years one can put the rear-seats back in without paying the tax..so they have all been turned back into 5-seaters..

Yeah check out the NLCK-forum everyone..Nocal FJ60 will translate;)

Well martin i think very nice, good job,i'll be doing something similar soon, actually its mostly done but far from in the truck yet.
The only thing i don't like is your speaker location, prone to damage and taking up valuable load space.
Ive got 6x9's in the back also, when i get the draws etc in im going to fabricate two small chipboard boxs into the corners of the roof at the rear for the speakers, they'll face forward for good sound and be high enough to hopefully avoid any damage or get in the way of load area.

cheers goldchaser

Hey.. yeah.. the speakers are the "weakest link". As I said my first thought was to have some sub's in there but i chickened out:D.. Without the speaker box the drawers could be 20cm longer, or there could be a lid accesible from the rear seats... I also concidered mounting the barrier behind the speakers..I might even make some triangular "cages" for the speakers..
I dont go on hard-core expeditions so the only stuff i put back there are soft bags, warm clothes and stuff like that..

The problem is that when doing things like this one faces options and possabilities every minute.."hmm maybe i could..." At some point one has to say "f## it.. I'm finishing this thing tonight"

Now you can all look at mine and say.. "hmm I'll do it slightly defferent...." And that is a good thing:cheers:

Small speakerboxes in the roof sounds ok... I have seen it somewhere on this forum. But to get anything close the potensial of the speakers, especially to get good bass, a flimsy chipboard box with no rear-wall and no internal space just wont cut it, unless they are bolted down good .The speakers have to be firmly fixed or they might as well just lay in the back-seats..:)

Very nice.

I'm considering something along those lines as well, though mine will be about half the height, so the dobermans don't bump their heads... ;)

Reminds me of truckvault.com

This could be a good prototype for one made by truck vault.

There is one nice feature you could do. Make it tough to break into and if room is needed for large items make it collapsable.

look nice, well done, just gotta wonder how loney my duggy would be stuck back there in limbo with no one to talk to. guess i could always throw the kids back there and let him sit in the back seat

Very nice, indeed. I'd be proud to sport that.
