I am going to be in Denver for the 4WD Association, attending the Christmas Caravan for Kids (Christmas Caravan for Kids - https://www.christmascaravanforkids.org/)
Please post here if you are able to patrol Forest Roads on Saturday with Pikes Peak Ranger District.
Basic Plan for Saturday, December 3:
Link up at the Stop N Save convenience store in Divide (10 Meadow Park Drive, Divide) between 8am and 8:30am.
Drive west on US 24 to Manchester Creek Road (CR 5), turn north and go +/- 10 miles to the parking area /trailhead on FR 357.
Link up with PPRD staff; they'll provide a safety briefing, radios, and maps.
Task organize into teams/pairs (or singles) and decide who is patrolling what areas.
Plan to be on patrols until 3:30, when PPRD staff huddles at the trailhead location. Turn-in radios, etc.
Check the weather forecast and dress appropriately. Take snacks and a lunch, plus drinking water. Carry tire chains, traction boards, straps, shackles, etc. A tarp and extra blanket might be a good idea given that there is snow on the ground now.
Currently, there are no fire restrictions.
PPRD said they are moving some signs to exclude FR 357A and FR357B from the cutting area. The roads will not be blocked, but they will be outside the designated cutting area (intent is to keep vehicles from going down in there).
