Okay, so my kids were having "window races" in the back seat followed by the usual refrain from me that "you're gonna break something..." Well, sure enough there is a clunk and now the PS rear window won't power up or down. Things got really quiet really quickly in the back seat.
Fortunately, the motor was still working, but something had clearly either broken or come apart.
I followed a thread by "newbie mechanic" on how to remove the front door panel. Thanks newbie! The process to remove the rear is very similar.
There is a lever with a nylon "wheel" on the end to push the window up, but nothing to attach it to the window to pull it down again. My first thought was all we needed was a little lubrication and she'd be all set. That didn't do the trick.
So, I took apart the DS rear door and realized that there was a "carrier" that is clamped to the bottom of the window that was missing on the PS. After a little looking I found it laying in the bottom of the door. I suspect that there was too much friction between the glass and the window frame and the motor just pulled the "carrier" off the bottom of the glass.
After cleaning the rubber up so that it would be nice and sticky and hold on the glass I pressed everything back in place. Some silicone on the tracks and I think we may have a new champion in the window races.
One catch...now when I use the "auto up" feature the window closes all the way and then begins opening again. I suspect it's the "anti-pinch" feature to prevent the window from squishing fingers. When I put the window up manually it will close all the way and not open again.
Does anyone know how to "re-program" the window so that it knows where the fully closed position is?
I'm about 90% of the way there and just need help with the last 10%.
Thanks!
