Had a little fun today, maybe to much. It hasn't rained here in a few months, but accidently found a part of a trail with a little water. It had been sitting for a while. After trying to get it out, I ended up having to winch out. It was a long process, and in the process I lost my power steering. I'm still under manufacture warranty....does anyone know if this is covered? May just be a seal, as I couldn't find a leak. My adviser knows what I do, any suggestions on how I should approach having it replaced under warranty...if its possible. gracias

"I don't know what happened." - Repeat that over and over if they start grilling you about the mud all over the truck! ;)

Wash it really well and tell them you lost it when trying to park at the mall :p. The "I don't know what happened" approach will work too. They shouldn't deny that even if they knew the actual circumstance. I've winched out of a number of mud holes and my power steering is fine. Good luck!

I busted my steering rack offroading in the mud, so before i went to the dealership i washed my entire truck then steam cleaned the engine. Took it to the first dealer and they told me they couldnt replace it under warranty because my truck had scratches on it, so I told em to take it off the lift and went to another dealer where they replaced everything no charge.

What kinda sense does this make!?!?

I'm glad to hear that you did get them to fix it though.

for sure not the first time i have had to winch myself out. but i will say it was the toughest to get out. took almost 10 minutes....i'm greatful that that seems like the only problem.

had to take the tires off today to get the rocks and mud out from the rotors. sounded like a freakin finger nail against a chalk board driving down the street!! i don't think my guys are gonna give me a hard time. i had just read somewhere that the power steering was olnly warrantied for 12 months.

sure as heck this doesn't happen. i have scatches from vegas, rubicon, moab, AZ and a dozen more places in TX. adds character to the FJ in my opinion!! afterall, it is built to go offroad right? they sure have a lot of videos promoting it in toyota.com...espesially in the trail team videos!

yea there is also that lovely disclaimer that warranty does not cover off-road related issues WTF, produce, market, and sell the FJ for the OFF ROAD yet not back it up.....wtf?

Prove it happened off road! WTF is right!!

The dealer that turned me away said that they wouldnt accept any vehicle under warranty that had scratches and dirt in the engine compartment because that was obviously abuse...needless to say i have never gone back there and neither has friends and family.

i'll keep you guys updated. im taking it in tomorrow morning:o

the dealership in vegas didn't turn anything down, and actually asked for videos of our FJ's in the mountains. They actually used them to help sell the FJ. said it before and i will say it again. they replaced a fried transfer case, 2 mass air sensors, a rear diff. that was all from abuse, yet every time i went in they gave me a car and fixed the problem without a question asked.

here i am lucky enough to have quite a few of the guys at the dealership sharing memberships at local chapters with me, and going on trail team events. i'm on a couple of trail team videos, and pics.....so i'm sure they wouldn't have a problem proving abuse!!:bang:

so what did they say?

I have to say I truly have a dealership and a an adviser that takes care of me. Not a question was asked when I brought it in. He marked it as a "safety hazard" and gave me a TRD Tundra Offroad edition to drive around while they warrantied my FJ, on their dime. Turns out I literaly blew up the powerstearing. the whole thing had to be replaced including the hosing. While it was there he took it upon himself to fix the emergency brake (those of us with mt's tend to use them a whole more if we actually offroad in them), the weather trim around the back that had a few holes in it from my dog jumping in an out of the back, and a floor mat hook. I came in to pick it up and he told me to bring it back next month to work start work on the tranny, diffs and transfer. he didn't want to sent toyota a bill all at once. wish i could name who it is, but don't want to stop a good thing.

most of the staff commented on the new 34's and the chop. inet sales came and took some pic to help them sell ARB parts, which they now carry at their shop.

everytime i wonder why toyota does so well, i am reminded that its because they take care of their customers. kinda a good business approach, they take care of me....its more money i have to spend in the parts department and they know i will spend!! give a little, and make more money!

thanks for the tips, and i hope the next time you all have something break you have someone at the dealership that has your back. i am of the impression now that if its touted as an offroad vehicle, they can't blame me for using it for that. the dealership i go to that is.

i love the quote while i am looking at your sweet fj taking a little abuse on those rocks!!:):):)

Suprisingly only one scratch came from Rubicon...but the 10gauge skids did look like taco's when we got home. But that's what I bought it for! "Wheel it or Park it!"

I would start some poo if they said that to me.

One scratch huh. You are a pilot! I picked up quite a few there. Then again, I had just started wheelin. Hopefully gas will keep comin down and I can make it back over there. Mud is messy, rocks are fun. Not to many rocks to play on here though

Well it may be only one scratch but it does cover a good portion of the drivers side door.

It adds character and a great story!! you didn't get it fixed did you? I got one similar, a little higher on my passager side from Moab, and a pretty good one from Katemcy Rocks in TX. I decided to leave them, seperate the men from the boys!:steer:
