If the wheel becomes hard to turn at times (like in a parking lot or when off-roading) is that typically the pump dying or is it the gearbox?

Do you hear any odd noise when you turn? My symptoms were: pump whine that was elevated when turning the wheels, increase in volume with an increase in RPM and a fairly consistent leak of PS fluid when parked. The leak attributed to the pump failure, the actual pump didn't appear to leak, it was the return and supply hoses from the reservoir along with the stock cooler that leaked.

On a 92 3FE, mine had a wobble at the pulley and I replaced the jacked up woodruff key, but when I reinstalled the pulley with a new key it still wobbles. I'm wondering if I need a new pulley or if I can just tighten it down as is. I'm afraid i know the answer already...

Now drive it and check for leaks. and check the fluid level a few times over the next couple of days.

Now is the opportunity for others who have done this to add their knowledge to this FAQ. Also, please point out corrections or additions I should make above.

Sure looks a lot nicer than before

Note: In the bottom picture the High Pressure line to the gear box isn't fully screwed down. I did not have a 17mm flare wrench at the time so I just snugged it up and then went to the parts store to get a wrench to finish the job.

TY TY TY I just followed this Im now the owner of a 17 flare wrench bravo

Ok I replaced Hi ressure and two return lines yesterday. I put it up on jacks opened resovoir and turned bac and forth(with steering stabilizer disconnected) And its ALMOST good, after 6 hours of back and forth. Im still getting air is this the norm??

Ok I've been working on some cooling issues on mine and i have the radiator out at the moment. So while it's out, i started cleaning and fixing half :censor: repairs that were done in the past. I keep finding missing bolts and items not mounted, at all. So while mopping up the oil that is leaking from my power steering, i noticed the U shaped metal line with the attached mounting bracket isn't mounted to anything. Can someone show me a pic of where it is supposed to be mounted?

Thanks for the write-up. I foresee following this procedure in the near future.

Do you plan to replace parts or wait until your redneck engineering runs its course?

eventually replace the pump, right now i have spent a lot of money and time on my leaker,I'm slowing down and doing temp repairs instead of parts replacement unless absolutely needed.

One of the low pressure lines coming from the res mounts to the most left (drivers side) of the pump. I’m leaking in that area and am going to get hose tomorrow. It looks like the hose attaches to a piece mounted to the pump and from what I can tell, that piece comes with a new pump. Is that sealed with an o-ring or something? If so, does that o-ring come with the pump rebuild kit? Does anybody have a part number for whatever part seals that connection? Thanks. Hopefully stopping my leak tomorrow!! Too many spots on the driveway now!!

I replaced the o-ring with one from hardware store just took it in and matched. No idea if that comes with rebuild, when my pump was finally leaking out the back side bad, I just bought new pump from @beno , for the time it takes to rebuild in my world I figured it's not worth it and just went new

How are technical questions asked and responded to correctly when no mention has been made of the specific vehicle in question? There are no Less than 4 different engines used in the 80 Series.

Sorry. First stage of knowledge is “you don’t know what you don’t know.” I think I got it though. I picked up an o-ring set and got it sorted. Thanks! Appreciate the help.

I'm trying to make sense of the non-standard part numbers. Could someone check this diagram to make sure I have the placement correct?
