Following up for anyone who may be having the same issue with not being able to thread that part. I ordered a set of thread chasers which included M14x1.5 and M18x1.5, but neither of them were the same size so I believe that part is actually M16x1.5, but haven't confirmed this. As a last ditch diagnostic I ended up cutting the old bolt off of the old high pressure lines and it threaded right in, so I knew I had an issue with the angle I was coming from. I ended up taking the battery tray out and was able to get a better angle and the new part threaded right in.
Hey guys, working on 1996 LX450, just added it to the fleet for my daughter when she starts driving in a few months. Something for us to work on together and do some wheeling. Steering got progressively harder, but much better underload. PO said they had a NAPA PS pump in there. Replaced the radiator, PS pump, high pressure hose, and reservoir to pump hose with toyota parts. I have bled the system over and over and I’m still getting foam/bubbles and PS fluid geysers out of the reservoir when running. I’m not sure what to do next…I tried a vacuum pump, none of the fittings seal the reservoir. Any help would be appreciated.
First, if the fluid is leaking out of the system when the cap is on, buy a new cap. The fluid will ALWAYS spray out of the reservoir with the cap off and the engine running when you turn the wheels, that's why there's a cap.
Second, what problem are you having, other than the fluid spraying out of the reservoir? Does the system not provide any assistance? Is it leaking? Does it make a whining or growling noise?
FWIW, the radiator has nothing to do with the power steering system. This is the entirety of the system (less the steering gearbox):
The reservoir feeds the pump (via 44348A), the pump feeds the gearbox (via 44411), the gearbox drains into the cooler loop (via 44416), the cooler loop drains into the reservoir.
As owner of a 94 with PS leaks, and wanting to delay hose replacement until warmer weather, how does the cap figure in leaks? Just priced a cap, and they are pricey for a maybe quick fix.

I just replaced all 3 low pressure hoses. I flushed old fluid with the clear hose double-barb setup. Saw plenty of bubbles big and small. Once fluid was clean. I reconnected the low pressure return hose under the reservoir, topped the reservoir to the cold fill line, put the cap on, and with the front wheels still in the air and engine off cycled the steering 10x. That was to purge bubbles. Started it up. All quiet. Checked levels after a drive, all good.

The fluid is spitting out the reservoir even at idle with no cap and not turning the wheels. I am not an expert on power steering, but I have never seen that before on a car… That’s why I figured I have air getting in somewhere. On all of my other Toyotas, I can remove the cap while the engine is running without fluid purging out.
