I took my LX470 in for Lexus to flush the AHC.

It has clean fluid it in it now, but the tank looks black still from the old oil coating the outside!

Anyways, they also diagnosed a power steering leak with a $1200 rack replacement quote.

I've done some research on mud, and it seems lots of people have seeping with no drop in fluid levels.. I will keep an eye on it, but any opinions on the solution ($1200?) or the consequences aside from losing power steering? Which would suck - but then I would simply do the replacement.

I have a 2004 LC but I also own a 2008 Chevy Duramax. Not sure if Chevy power steering fluid if different from Toyota but I had a power steering leak in my Chevy and that fluid is very corrosive to anything rubber and paint. It ate through my shock mount bushings, a hose and took the paint off my frame. Needless to say I got it fixed and it was not cheap on a Chevy either. Good Luck

I know they can be rebuilt on the older models. Maybe same is true with the new? I think the quote I got was either $150 or $350 for the rebuild on the steering box of my 62...

The experience here on MUD is to go with a new OEM rack based on the rebuilt racks giving out prematurely. I'd call one of our dealer sponsors and order a new rack. Consider replacing your TREs at the same time if needed.
