Hi all,

87 JDM BJ74 13BT auto. Woke up this morning to a typical -20 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Started the truck and a nasty whine was affiliated with engine rpm and steering. I think this is the power steering pump, once the engine was warm, the whine disappeared. I wanted to check my PS fluid, but I can't find the resevoir - where is it? I found the coolant res, atf res, window washer stuff, but I can't find the PS one - anyone have any pics?

Also, next week I will be taking off my turbo and exhaust manifold to inspected a suspected cracked manifold. I do have to drain the engine of it's coolant, correct? Please confirm. If so, does anyone know where the coolant drain is?

It's at the back of the engine bay, on the right side. It's filled with ATF.

The whine was probably the alternator.

If you are removing the turbo, you will need to get some gaskets - exhaust, turbo oil/coolant lines, exhaust outlet, turbo flange (though some don't use a gasket).

You could just clamp the lines to/from the turbo so you don't have to drain the cooling system.

Talk about reviving a thread. John, if this were to happen again, how would I go about fixing the alternator whine?
