I am renovating an HJ60 (https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=66496), and it is almost ready to go (and to be turboed). Currently I am playing with an annoying little problem-the power door locks.
The truck has power locks, but no power windows, so it has a single switch on the driver's side door. There is a solenoid in each door, and 2 realys in the drivers side trunk area.
I tested the solenoids individually, by applying 12V directly to the 2 (not 4) connectors in the solenoids, and they all work perfectly well. The 2 relays in the trunk area are brand new from toyota, so they should be fine. All fuses in the standard fuse box have been replaced and are fine.
when I press the switch to the lock position, nothing hapens at all. when I press it to unlock, one of the relays clicks once, but nothing happens.

Does anyone have an idea what exactly is wrong there? Is there another fuse hidden somewhere?

Thanks,
Jan

The relays swap polarity to make the solonoids work. It sounds like a door switch to me. I can't remember but I think that if the DS door switch does not work correctly none of them will. Maybe use one of the rears to test.?

What manual do you have to wire all of this and do you have wiring schematic expierience?

I have the manual for the year (84), including the wiring diagram, and limited experience.
According to the diagram (if I read it correctly), nothing should work if there is a problem with the hatch solenoid or wiring. got to check that.
thanks

Once it has been determined that all of the fuses are good here is what I do:

I look at are the quality of the grounds and power sources. Next look at the connectors, clean any corrosion. After that I look at the condition of the harness, un wrap it and check all of the mid-harness splices. Next I look at the relay's are they all good, when energized do they close the correct circuit? And finally I look the actual components.

To check these things I made a little test bench with a power distribution block, a bunch of jumpers, and leads with alligator clips on the ends. I just hook it to the battery for 12v and start to test stuff. I check voltage, current, and resistance with a basic multimeter. And I use my trusty haynes schematic to figure out how the stuff should work.

I would say 85% of my fixes have been ground/power, connector, or harness related. I've only seen 1 relay go "bad" and I was able to fix it with some cleaning fluid. And my only real component failure has been the Alt and the oil pressure sensor.
