I am still trying to find myself a five year project and am looking at a fairly complete 1965 LPB, F, 3 spd. I believe the body is in reasonable shape but the will need a love from the ground up. Is there anything major different from a 65 to the mid 70s FJ45?? Is there difficult parts to get from that vintage? Is there any reason to stay away from that year? It doesn't have a full foating rear end but are they hard to come by? Are parts harder to get for a F engine than a 2F? Is the power difference huge between the F and 2F? I am planning to bring the truck back to stock for wood trips from the bush and garbage dump runs. I just don't want to get it and find out parts don't line up with the more common years.

Thanks for the help guys and hope to lean on your experience in the future.

Where are you? We didn't get lpbs in the US in the 70s, so a 65 is perfect for us. IMO, newer is better from a driveability standpoint--2F better than F, 4 speed better than 3 speed, disk brakes better than drums, etc. But if it's in good shape with F, 3speed, etc, you will still enjoy it. Semi-float rear axle is fine for most uses and less maintenance. US never got FF rear axles, either, on 40-series.

If rust isn't bad, go for it. You can always upgrade engine, trans, etc if there are problems or you don't like them later.
