Trying to help my Bro buy a 4 runner in real time...

He has his eyes set on a 2000 with a 4 banger and stick shift.

Really quick, any problems with these? Anything quirky to look out for?

Any and all help is appreciated.

Guy wants $6450.

nothing quirky.
4 cyl manual isn't a rocket, but it's waaay better than a 4cyl with an auto.
Lots of 4 cylinders were 2wd.....

I have both..
4 cylinder has a chain so no timing belt costs but have been known to crack exhaust manifolds. Rugged motor in my opinion.

Recently bought a 99 V6.... and it gets better mileage all around then my 4 banger automatic.

I think the 3rd gen 99 and 2000 models are a good pick over the 96 through 98 trims. 01 and 02's have the traction control upgrades with mixed opinions.

Well, he bought it...

Turns out, it WAS a 2wd, but it is for his wife to drive back and forth to the hospital (she's a nurse) and take the dog to the beach.

Not a big 4x4 family.

Once he made the point about the 2x4, he got the rig for $4700.

127K and I have litterally never seen a cleaner used car. This owner was ANAL.

Brand new tires, put on the day before. Brand new windshield put in 1/2 hour before my Bro bought it because of some star cracks... clean car fax, fresh synthetic, all papers and receipts.

Aside from the 2x4 thing, it is a nice little ride.

Thanks for the input.
