We traveled to Maine for a family vacation last week. Our LX570 windshield was hit by something on the way there and had a 1 1/2 foot crack across the right side. After the initial windshield installation I noticed that the seal at the base of the windshield was not flush at the sides. I opened up the hood and noticed many of the plastic pieces were loose and some of the rivets were missing. As I began snapping the pieces back in place that I could I realized that it's the installers job to do this correctly. However the installers had left for the day so I brought it back the next morning. After 2 hours and a discussion with the manager they fixed the problem and replaced the missing rivets. The plastic is no longer loose, but one of the wipers is much higher than the other at baseline. I wonder if they switched the wipers or if the right wiper needs to be brought down a notch lower. Acadia National Park was beautiful and it was one of the best family vacations. Portland Glass charged $837 for non oem glass, FYI. The OEM glass would not have arrived in time for the highway trip home. Any thoughts on the wipers? Please see the picture. Any helpful feedback is much appreciated.

That is a grade a craptastic job they did. The wipers are probably not switched but rather not seated/registered correctly and they should get that corrected as well. Very common for the wipers to be out of sync after replacement but the installers are supposed to handle that as part of their scope.

Acadia NP is a great park. We did it on our way to the North Maine Woods and I really wished we had bicycles with us as it looked like Acadia had some great paths for them.

Easy fix on the wipers but all other issues is why I've been rolling with a two foot crack and two big starfish for a year now. I don't trust windshield replacement guys and I'm too lazy to do it myself. Wish we could find the "Slee Offroad" of windshield replacement

How was the North Maine Woods? We just recently did Acadia and had a relaxing weekend, but were disappointed there were no trails nearby.

The wipers pop off with a tool that looks like a garden weed puller.

What has happened there is when you put them back on they sit on like gear teeth, and they are on one or two teeth incorrectly clock wise. Any body shop or windshield guy can correct that in under a minute. The just pop it off and put it back on a little more counter clock wise.

I would be concerned about possible water leaking with that spectacular job.

Loos like a nice trip!

Highly recommended. Hike to abandoned locomotive in the middle of the woods, go down in to an ice cave in July, fish/camp on the Allagash, dirt roads to logging roads to pig paths for days. We made it to a site on the Delorme Atlas one day and some guides on a serious canoe trip came in to make camp where we were and said they'd never seen a vehicle there in all there years of guiding on the river LOL. That's when you know you are doing it right!

It was an awesome trip. Wifie said we couldn't take my 80 so I didn't even look for trails. Let's list Portland Glass as a site to avoid. I adjusted the wiper with a 14 millimeter socket when we got home and it's all good. Before installing the windshield Portland Glass couldn't tell me the thickness of either the OEM or aftermarket windshield for comparison. I can't comment on thickness. The light transmittance seems to be higher on the new windshield than the two front windows. There are many miles of hiking and biking trails on the island. Roosevelt Jr made many trails for horse and carriages that are not open to cars. Arcadia was absolutely beautiful. Thanks for your help.

Sorry to hear about your experience. I am not sure if you paid out of pocket or through insurance. The first owner of my vehicle used his Chubb insurance to get a new OEM windshield at the dealer at ~15,000 miles, and it was a lease. There are some things I have to keep 100% OEM and factory glass is one of them.

Insurance covered the windshield repair. Portland Glass charged more for an aftermarket windshield than Safelite for OEM glass. The crack slowly grew each day after the strike. Driving home with the growing crack with the family downwind was not an option. Luckily my wife doesn't notice or care that it's different.
