I want to smooth transition between two pieces of metal in a spot where welding isnt practical. I will be coating over after with POR. I havent worked with either their patch or putty, so I ordered both. The POR site isnt very descriptive between the two. Anyone use these and can describe their different applications?

Thanks!

The POR patch is more of a thick caulk. I found it difficult to work with. The POR Putty is like clay, it can be molded and flattened. You can also use a little water to smooth it out. The putty can be sanded nicely. If you are tryng to join two pieces of metal that may move in relation to each other, the POR putty may crack while the Patch will give a little more flex.

As with any paint/seam sealer/epoxy, prep work is a must. Clean the area very well with a de-greaser and make sure the area is dry and clear of any particles.

I have had good results using patch between coats of por15. First coat being liquid gets deep in cracks.after a few hours apply Patch, then smooth over irregularities and pits, plastic bondo applicator works, light touch, then 2nd coat.

I gave my dad a tube of the putty when he was doing a rust repair on his 4Runner's rear window. It did a great job of building up an area that had rusted out, and would have been a PITA to weld.
