A CLC Member was recently contacted by a member of another Springs area club who inquired if CLC was going to maintain/continue to service Reynolds Wrap (aka Saran Wrap, aka FS 370_D) under the Adopt-a-Trail Program.

CLC adopted the trail some years ago and routinely (once annually, at least) performed trail clean-up duties and reported the sum of "service-hours" to the Colorado Assn of 4WD Clubs.

CLC has not been active in this service recently; according to one member, the last CLC trail clean-up activity was in October 2013.

Poll: The motion is that CLC continues sponsorship of Reynolds Wrap. This implies that CLC organizes and performs a trail clean-up activity in the near future.

Note: During the May business meeting, one member spoke about possibly adopting Mount Baldy (FS 379) for periodic clean-up service. The fact that CLC sponsors Reynolds Wrap was unknown at the time, therefore consider discussion of Mount Baldy as just that, a discussion.

Instructions: Members (meaning current on roster as CLC dues paid) may vote "yes" or "no". If you are not a current paid member, please do not vote. You may, however, comment as you wish in the thread. Members who vote are not required to indicate their position in the thread, but may do so if you feel compelled.

The poll is open for four days, ending at approximately 8:30am, MT, on Sunday, May 29th 2016.

The question is not whether we should, but if we can. Membership has been dwindling over the years, and if we don't have the manpower, and the other club does, then I say we bow out. Just my $.02

What is involved in maintaining a trail?
In years past, we spent time working on the drain for the water crossing at the Eagle Rock entrance, it seems to always get plugged with debris. We were supposed to help with the erosion/run off problem areas, the Forest service was going to bring a tractor once. Lot of work with just shovels, it never happened. Trash cleanup. Tree removals. Staking off unauthorized bypasses. That sort of thing.

This Saturday June 4 the Bighorn club is planning a scouting trip to eagle rock and Saran wrap trail to see what work needs to be done. They then coordinate with the forest service to schedule the work so the forest service can provide a front end loader. Is anyone avaialbe to go on the scouting trip with Bighorn make it a community effort and at the same time retain our trail commitment? My rig isn't out of the shop yet so I would need to ride with someone else. Bighorn is meeting at 0800 Southgate starbucks.

I ran a portion of Mount Baldy, a portion of Eagle Rock and then Saran Wrap last Sunday morning. The east entry point off Eagle Rock is clear of debris in the stream, there's a hell of a hole .2 miles from that trailhead right where the hill climb begins, and there's a deep wide rut at the top of that hill. From the intersection of spur 370DA, going downhill to the west, it is rocky and rutted but I wouldn't consider it requiring any "maintenance" unless one wanted to stack some rocks in the points where the camber tries to push the top of a rig into the trees.

At the west trailhead off Gold Camp Road, there's an abandoned Chevy Blazer S10 about 200 yds from Gold Camp Road. It's been scavenged but is relatively complete. The wheels are gone, but with four wheels it would probably winch-roll onto a flatbed.

There was surprisingly little debris/trash in vicinity of Saran Wrap and Eagle Rock (can't speak to what may have been on spur 370DA). I saw one bottle and one can, which I picked up.

Here's my contribution to trailsoffroad.com: Saran Wrap

I recently watched a video on trail etiquette, Per the host if rocks are stacked up to overcome an obstacle they should be removed promptly.
So from your description no maintenance needed?

If any trail repair/maintenance is to be done, I would recommend it be at the hole located 200-300 yards from the trailhead (east side) coming from Eagle Rock (in the meadow). There is no bypass here, but there are tracks where someone has "broke trail" to bypass the obstacle. I started to bypass, but realized it was not a legit bypass, so I backed down and did the obstacle.

Who among us has a good contact for the USFS Ranger District Office, who could initiate contact with regard to extracting that S10 Blazer, at a date TBD?

Regarding the Chevy Blazer S10; I called the Forest Service to inquire about volunteer service to assist in removing the vehicle. They told me to contact the County Sheriff's Office (because it is an abandoned vehicle). I called the Teller County Sheriff's Office, and was informed that the vehicle has already been reported, and it's "in the process to be removed by a contractor tow-truck company".
