Trying to get away for a couple of days and head up by Laporte.

Couple of nice areas to camp down there by the rivers.

Anyone know of fires in that area that I should be aware of?

I looked on the map and don't see any in that area except the Paradise fire.

Yea Skillet,I was just talking to a guy up at Bucks Lake,He said fires were ok there,but there were some roads closed..I had KPIG radio station on today,they said Paradise was evacuating,I don't know how bad the smoke is up there.We were planning on going up there next weekend 7/18-7/20.I will have to look up that place you are going,sounds good,I always like to be by some type of water.I want to jump in Bucks Lake,looks really cool on the web site.

Laporte looks like a cool little town,going to have to check it out.That historic Tavern at the Union Hotel would be a great place to drink a beer.The Total Escape web site is a good one,lots of good links for maps to add to the collection!

That whole stretch of road leading up to LaPorte is very cool.

There is a little store in Strawberry Valley and I always make a point to stop before heading down to camp and chat with the owner. Perhaps buy a block of cheese or something.

Good guy and always has information on the area.

Too bad you cannot come up this weekend. I will be attending my Grandmother's 85th on the 18th in Tahoe so that weekend is out for me.

Just called the Strawberry Valley General Store, the owner told me that it is mostly clear up there. No fires and light drift smoke, I think am going up.

Anyone want to get out?

Actually, I would be up above Jenner if Ab season was not closed for July.

hey skillet, i've been on the fires up there for 2 weeks. la porte is safe, but the smoke has been bad. I was based in quincy and many days could not see the mountains. Hwy 70 has been closed most of the time and bucks lake rd. occaisionaly but should be open. it is beautiful though. The closest fire to laporte is the "cold" fire and is contained, but many more have been spotting all over. and if they get dry lightning, it is on again. hope that helps. -VETTE

I remembered you telling me about the competition so I did not even bother you with it. I may just go to the PMC swap meet anyway.
