I have a 1982 FJ60, manual & in stock condition. Within the last week I began hearing a loud clanking noise while driving & in gear, it also shakes a little. At idle or cruising in neutral it makes no noise or shaking.
The noise and vibration is not constant, it comes & goes.
Could this be a tranny issue? A bud of mine thinks it could be the U-Joints as he had a similar issue years ago. Thanks in advance for any advice.

sounds to me like the u joints if the vibs are at 55 65 mph

crawl under and check for loose bolts/mssing bolts for the heat shields, etc.; take the driveshaft off and check for play in the joints on the shaft and also the rear pinion flange for up/down/side-side play and the t case flange for the same. exhaust hangers break and can let the exhaust rattle. also the cat itself can go bad inside and rattle...hth

The vibrations do come on around the 50 mph mark.

Will be doing these checks later this week, thank you.
