I bought the 60 3 months ago. It had a flat spot in the acceleration and so i rebuilt the carb. It ran perfectly for 2 months and then started to deteriate. It got really bad after a long trip across the state.
Accelerating at half throttle, it seems to fall on its face at about 2500 rpm. If i'm at 1/4 throttle and push down to 1/2 throttle it slows down. At full throttle it accelerates quickly and smoothly.
I pulled the carb of and cleaned it again. No help. I guessed the timing was off and so advanced it at a gas station one day. It idled at about 900 rpm, but ran great, lots of power too.
1 month later and another trip across the state and its running really badly again. I got a timimg light (Snap-On) from a friend and figured my timing to be about 14 degrees. To get it to run better i advanced it again, all the way up to 27 degrees (the max the adjustment would allow) and it still falls on it's face at 3000 rpm, but no knock that i can hear.
Back at 7 degrees it idles at 700 rpm and surges all over the place. It is almost as if the timing is slipping, and not advancing properly. How do i check this? Should timing be my main suspect? Does the vacum advance fail on these? Valve adjustment help? Cap & Rotor?
Any help here appreciated, i can't afford to just buy replacement parts and see if it fixes the problem, i need to narrow it down some first.
Apologies for the jumbled post and thanks for the help
Happy holidays
