So I am in the market for a 100 and have found these 2 close to me. I like the 03 but it has 169000 miles on it where as the 02 has 132000 on it. I dont know which one to go with. The 03 has a 5 speed tranny. I am leaning more towards the 02 because of the lower miles. I know they run forever but why not start with a lower mileage cruiser for a couple grand less?

the 2003 was a refresh year, so you will see minor differences in the rigs, mostly in the interior, I actualy prefer the interior in the earlier 100's over the refresh... I belive the wheels went from a 16 to an 18inch etc, you can look up all of the differences, I would proly go with the 2002 with the lower miles... just my 2 cents:cheers:

I didn't know the differences, but from what you've said I too would go for the '02. I'm driving a '00 and it has yet to fail me. Go for the lower miles and it'll last just that much longer.

I looked specifically for an 03+, just for the tranny and other goodies. I do, however, dislike the nav. These babies don't have heaps of power, so I'd opt for the 5 speed. The difference in miles would come and go in the 02 and you'd still want the 5 speed...

the 5 speed tranny is nice, I owned a 98 and a 2003, the 5 speed made a bit of difference, but for me was not huge... One other little tidbit of info for ya, the early 100's came with a rear locker as an option, lots of them out there have it! I guess for me I just can't get over the nav in the 2003 plus rigs!

go to slee's website and look at the differences in the tech section. I say go for the 5-speed.

Rear comes down to is the 5spd worth the nav interface hassle it comes with. The DD'ing Mudders will tell ya 5spd and the hard core guys go pre-'03.

Just depends on your cup of tea.

locker was only available in 98-99

I like the interior on the '03 a LOT better. It just looks newer. In fact, when I tell people my '03 LX is 10 years old, they are like, "wow, I thought it was only a few years old!" and I'm like, "did you notice the cassette deck?" :D
I needed the 5 speed tranny, because I pull a trailer with snowmobiles in the mountains. If you have no intentions to tow, then I don't think the tranny is a big concern for you and I would go for the lower mileage 02.
It all comes down to your intentions and what you really need/want. It's different for everyone as you can probably tell.
That white '03 looks beautiful, though;)
Good luck.

I would say go with the 02 since I also own an 02 in the same color and it's a great rig :) If one of them didn't have NAV I'd say go with that one, but they both have it - it's just one of those things you learn to live with

Like others said already, see what type of service history they've both had and then make the decision between the interior/tranny differences - but considering the they want $2k more for a rig with 30k more miles on it...I'd say this makes the decision right there.

Good luck with the new rig!

I HATE the newer dash over the older. I guess only owning one you become used to whichever, but when you have the choice you'd like the older climate control. I love the 5spd, hands down the best upgrade the 100 got in the refresh. Out of the two trucks you posted, I'd go for the 2003. I don't like the tan carpet color in the LC, doesn't look as nice as the LX tan.

like said above, if one didnt have nav that'd be the one to go with. My 2000 didn't have nav and I'm happy I was able to swap it out. The 2005 does have it.

You're stereotyping. Plenty of "hard core guys" would say go with the 5 speed. I wouldn't even consider a pre '03 but I guess I am in the minority.

What's wrong with the LC's nav system that most people seem to hate?

They're not as hardcore......

Actually, the NAV is a touch screen that has some of your climate controls and stereo controls. It's almost unheard of to remove it and go to an upgraded aftermarket stereo because of the difficulty of mapping and rewiring all the connections. And, if the display goes bad, it's VERY expensive to repair/replace.

And, the NAV was already outdated from a technology standpoint as soon as it went into production. There are MUCH better aftermarket options today.

Well I went and test drove the 03 today. It was definitely nice. It is a one owner bought new from that same dealership. The salesman was showing the service record on it. The people who bought it new moved to Florida in like 05 or 06 and have since moved back to the area. When was hurricane katrina? Anyways there was about a page of service stuff on it. The timing belt was done at 115,000. The salesman told me they didnt have the car fax on it because car fax is in some kind of legal trouble right now. They had a auto clean or auto check report on it though. Never heard of auto clean or auto check? Hopefully I can get up to test drive the 02 wednesday. I will report back.

carfax legal problem? hmmmm.....

Katrina was in '05, so not sure if that's relevant, or if they moved there in '05 (wouldn't make too much sense unless it was right before the 'cane).

Apparently AutoCheck is a valid thing, I dunno how reputable it is though as I've never heard of it before. However, I did a quick search on "AutoClear" and that didn't come back with anything (sketchy). Good luck with your buying adventures!
