After recently replacing all 5 TRE's I still have play in my steering. I used the search function and Google but no definitive answers, just a bunch of maybe this's and maybe that's.

Spoke to Fulcrum and they reckon it could be the two uni's on the steering shaft, but I need an extra pair of hands to check. If so, anyone changed these out?

If not, any other thoughts?

If only it was a J4 - it'd be the rag-joint for sure.

Cheers

I was going to say the steering box as well. Its not too hard to adjust but it requires some thought and an extra pair of hands.
I adjusted my 73 series when I 1st got it as per book and it was still perfect years later
Its best done when you are sure everything else in the steering is spot on.

The two foremost MWB experts with the same advice in the same thread. It doesn't get any watertight than that ;)

Thanks guys very much, I'll check out the uni's first then the box. I may be back for advice.

Got my springs done BTW. EFS all round and extremely happy. Thanks for your help with that also fellas.

LOL ,I wish I was the foremost expert.

The main thing is not too over adjust. You might want to check your wheel bearings for play as an outside chance.

Ive always been interested in the EFS springs, good to know you are happy with them. Do they options like medium duty ,heavy duty etc?
Did you do the shocks as well?

Also have a look at the slip joint just above the bottom uni on the stearing sharft. If you have to change the unies it may be cheaper to get a S/Hand sharft as the unies are around $40 each.

I did everything. When I do stuff I generally do it all at once. It's more expensive but it eliminates that possibility of having to go back and pull s*** apart again.

Yeah EFS have all the options under the sun, and the guy said they're made out of memory steel these days, not just hardened steel or whatever they used back in the day. So they will hold their lift a lot longer. Also used EFS shocks, I saw some new u-bolts under there too, greasable shackles, new greasable pins, bushes etc. There's a before and after in that parabolic thread I started, plus a bit of a plug for Redcliffe Springs. I'm very happy with the work.

You looking at getting the troopy done?

Thanks mate I'll check that out too. Cheers

'Spose I'd better update my signature line.

Doing everything at once is my motto as well. The troopy already had newish ARB-OME springs and shocks and it rides ok.
No plans to change it.
Who ever owned the troopy originally, spent about $8k at ARB before he did the CSR.

Well you scored there Rosco. Though I don't know how you spend $8k at ARB?

It was a guestimate, but the dual wheel wheel carrier is $4k fitted then there is a ARB bullbar, snorkle and 2 inch ARB lift kit.
There is also a 3 way adjustable powered drivers seat and a matching unpowered passengers seat,Im not sure if ARB did that.

I wish he had of just got the lockers instead of the wheel carrier.;)

Steering box! Mechanic nipped it up, took all of 3 minutes. Now it's nice and tight. Going for some wheeling this Sunday down Beaudesert way and will readjust in about a fortnight after it settles in a little.

Then it's off to get a FEWA to straighten the wheel: (/) - it's well-crooked.

First outing this Sunday too. Gonna figure out how to operate a PTO, probably by winching my mates IFS 100 Series out of somewhere it doesn't belong. Like a flat dirt road hehe

If your going to cityview I might see you out there. And ill have to get my mechanic to tighten mine too I got a heap of slack in my steering

Just make sure everything else is perfect 1st. Adjusting the steering box is the last thing you do
