I rarely have more than one person in the GX—most of the time it’s just me and my two dogs.

That said, part of why I added the GX470 to the driveway was for those once-or-twice-a-year moments when I need extra seats. (My other vehicle is a 2012 Tacoma TX Pro Baja Access Cab with a "dog platorm" built in the back with seats removed. )

Now that I’m more attached to the GX and daily it, I want to set it up for camping. I know a lot of folks pull the third row and build a storage box/sleeping platform with the second row folded.

I’m considering the opposite and wondering if anyone has done it: keep the third row installed and folded up for the ~362 days a year I don’t need it, and build a platform that still allows the third row to fold down and latch in when needed.

Has anyone built a setup like this and have photos or tips to share?

Just a platform? I think most people build as ypu described to max out storage accessible from the rear. If you'll not be accessing the underside of the platform from the rear then, well, where are you going to keep your stuff?

Maybe what you really need for 3 days of the year is a platform thats easily removable?
