Hello want to install a power inverter; any recommendations on location that others have used?? thinking of this location; also what model have others used/ pro and cons appreciated.

Do you have any ideas on your load requirements? This has to do with providing suggested units of comparable size.

forgot to add this; i know these things heat up and placing it in center may not be a good idea. I do want it to be permanent and out of the way.

Under the drivers side cover of my drawer system. Ran 4 gauge wire from battery to back with 150a fuse as close to battery as possible. Xantrex 1000W XPower inverter (Xantrex makes great products. the XPower can be found for around $100).

If you don't have drawers you could potentially fit one in the jack storage location. Under the seat is to tight. For such a big vehicle there really isn't much storage space. I think my Subaru has more.

I know the space above the transmission and right below the shifter get pretty hot as is. Not sure about that center console area. I'd explore the idea of putting the inverter behind the PS, rear panel, opposite of the subwoofer. Then run 120V chords to where you need it.

If you mean installing in the cup holder location there is only about 1.5 inches of depth there unless you want to cut into the console storage area.

Actually the whole back side of the console removes and has a huge cavity in there at least 14"W x 16"D x 4"H, it looks like that is where the factory Navi goes. I don't have the Navi or the RSE, so I have a huge cavity. I am going to put either my 5 Channel amp or my Blue Sea SafeHub 150 power distro inside there. Next time I have the back of the console off, I will snap a few pics.

I agree, this is where I am planning to put mine. Along with a couple of fused distro blocks from Blue Sea, One unswitched, and one ignition switched.

Very cool pegasis just what I was thinking but I was going to remove the cup holder! I was not sure about the space under there was gonna pull it on my next day off to see. Inputs are much appreciated.

All you purist out there please don't get made but I also wanted to use a small microwave to use will driving (passenger would operate lol) it would be a very small one to heat up coffee or a small snack etc. thanks:lol::cool:

Be advised that a microwaves cooking power and it's load to make that power is about 40% higher. 1000 watts cooking requires 1400 watts power. 1400 watts requires 116 amps over 12 volts.

Of course a dorm microwave is about 600 watts so 70 amp draw on 12 volts. I would run 1000W inverter with a 100 amp circuit with 2 gauge wire.

Good luck.

I installed my 700w inverter in the right side cargo area inside the lower (rectangular) cubby hole. Its connected to a second battery so I don't have to worry about draining the starting battery.

The rear heat is ducted to just below that cup holder. I wouldnt put electronics that normally get quite hot there.

Has anyone thought of placing the inverter into a NEMA 4 enclosure and mounting on the exterior of the truck?
No, I am not thinking of hanging it off one of the doors, but if you were to find a spot on the underneath side, you could mount it there with a fuse block in the engine bay and a load distribution in the interior. Of course, you would want to get one that either has internal cooling or a large heat sinc.

I see it is a two piece console, but how did you get the back of the center console off? I removed the 5 screws on each side...that required some gymnastics, but what next? Does it slide or tilt or what?
thanks, rScotty

I replied to your PM on this subject as well. Actually you don't need to remove any screws to get the back off. Pulls straight back and off. No tools required.
