Back to actively working on the 40 and one of this morning's tasks was to remove the pilot bearing to get ready and install new transmission, etc.

Had read a thread on MUD a while back about how much of a pain this can be...and one crazy (but not so crazy) way to remove it.

Simple take some bread (in my case a Merita hotdog bun) tear into smaller pieces, stuff bread into hole until cavity is full, use a home-made tool and hammer to compress the bread. The bearing just pops right out. No grease or expensive tool needed and you can snack on the leftover bread!!

I tried that and grease on the 55 clutch change and it did not work so hot :(
Glad it worked well for you.

I've read about that in the past, but I've always been skeptical. Good work:cheers:
