so i started pulling all the "original" electrical tape off the underhood wiring to see how far back i was going to have to go (vehicle sat for decades with no hood...major dryrot).

the harness did not appear to have been into before and the tape was wrapped in itself the entire way..took quite a bit of extricating.

when i started getting in towards the headlight plug (left side), i found wires that were damaged and taped up under the main tape, along with some wires that had been twisted together??? could this have been done at the factory? it's a 73 harness if that helps.

here's an example of the dry rot. doesn't look like i'll have to go too far into the tape to get to good wire.

I can't help, but would find it hard to believe that would have been done like that at the factory.

Who knows...

acutally, the factory way of tying multiple wires is all wires stripped, a metal clip pinched around them and taped, so not that unbelievable.

i'm preparing to move on to the entire passenger side of the engine harness, but am perplexed by a couple connectors. one on each side, comes out by the turn signal plugs and have the same single bullet connector. at first i thought they were the side markers, til i realized the side markers come out much farther back. could toyota have used the same engine harness for the 40's as they do the piggies, and could these be the original 40 marker light connectors?

i know its not factory because ive done the same thing bad headlight plug and just twisting the wires and taping them:D it must be a bad day for wiring seems like everybody is having cruiser wiring issues, including myself

if someone had done this afterwards, they would've had to retape the entire harness

lol...parts washer takes fingernail polish off and you peel through 30 year old electrical tape...it's nastier than 30 year old grease. ;)
