Remove the foot plate and it will fit underneath the back seat. It's out of the way, but easy to get to, just flip the seat cushion forward.
 
ratchet to floor in the back right below the hatch. Easy to get to when you need it and out of the weather. Hi-lifts don't seem to like the weather much.
 
I agree with the above posts. Mounting it inside the truck is better. If you insist on mounting outside on the bumper or roofrack I would get a Hi-Lift cover to protect it from the elements.
 
Yakima has a new product out there that is just for a Hi-Lift Jack.

I'm having trouble picturing just what you mean - any chance you could post a pic, or describe a little differently please? I have mine on the roof on a rack but want to move it inside. Thanks!
