Anyone have a pic of how a diesel grille badge bolts to the fj62 grill?

Are diesel and gasser grills the same?

Seems like there is a spot to attach a diesel badge to a gasser grill but can't find a pic of how they attach.

Thanks,

Sean

An FJ62 would be fundamentally the same as a HJ61 ,although not all HJ61 have the dual headlights.
The Turbo diesel has a TURBO badge and the HJ60 (and probably the BJ60) have a DIESEL badge.
The non american models are usually more blacked out.

Im not sure how they fit on but if you had one it should be obvious.

Thanks Rosco,

It's a US 62 Grill that I am putting a Diesel badge on (to finish a HZ conversion :).

There seems a place for the badge in the grill on the drivers side, which looks correct for location of the badge, but I am curious how the badges attached. I don't have the hardware and can not find a pic of how it was done at the factory. I can make something up fairly easily but love to see how mr Toyota did it.

Thanks
Sean

We have pics on our site(jeffersonstatemachining.com) of the oem replicas we started making after Toyota discontinued them some years back. The back of the original plastic ones had plastics pins that were held by metal clips through a sheetmetal backer behind the grill.

Thanks diesel 42.

You have some nice stuff on your page.

I am basically looking for a pic of that sheet metal backer before I make one.

Cheers,

Sean

diesel grille badge

Sean,

I am not sure there is a diesel grille badge on the HJ61s. Attached is a picture of a JDM HJ61 and an Aussie HJ61 (one is the dual headlights and one is the single headlights), neither one has a "diesel" badge. They both do have a "Turbo" badge however.

If you'd like, when I get home I can take a detailed picture(s) of the grille and the connection point.

Thanks Sean,

Yeah, if you have a chance, it would be much appreciated.

Someone have me the diesel badge and since I just are finishing up a 1 HZ conversion, I thought I would put it on. Sometime soon, I hope to switch it for a Turbo badge but promised myself I would drive it for a while before I do that.

Are those your trucks? Very, very nice!

Thanks Sean,

Yes, those are two of current my Cruisers. Thanks for the bump!

Hey, it looks like you might be right regarding the emblem on the grill being either "turbo" or "diesel". Check out this link for a picture and part numbers for both options. It also shows the mounting hardware.

Sorry that I forgot to get a picture of my set-up. I will try to get a picture in the next day or two.

Here is the Diesel badge from a Canadian 60 series I used on my FJ60 diesel swap.

I repainted it.

The US grill had the holes to mount the badge, so its an easy install.

There is a guy here on mud selling aluminum reproductions also.

Im thinking the diesel badge was for the HJ60 and the turbo badge for the HJ61 all the 61 JDM's I have seen had the Turbo badge maybe some of the guys from down under can shed some light on what they have on their 61's even though the parts list for the 61 shows both badges available JDM seems to only sport the one badge on the grill.

In Europe all HJ60 have the DIESEL badge. The HJ61 have always had the Turbo badge since production started.
Same for the rest of the world,as far as i know.

doug720, Dieseler, sved, Anyone? (maybe roscoFJ73, Stone, canucksafari, brownbear, lostmarbles, greg_b, Enigma, cruiser_guy, or any of the other multitude of MUD-Gods):

This may not be the right thread for this, but it seems to fit with the current discussion (HJ60s and HJ61s).

I was having a discussion with another crusier dude the other day. Discussion turned to the fabulous HJ60 series wagons, and more specifically, the difference between the HJ60s and the HJ61s. I know there are MANY, MANY differences between the two models, but we were discussing just some basic stuff. Here goes...

My thought was that the 60s were the ones with the 60s-style dash/interior/single,round,headlight and the 61s are the ones with the 62-style dash/interior/dual,square,headlights (think US FJ60 vs FJ62).

Said cruiser dude thinks that the HJ60s are left-hand-drive while the HJ61s are right-hand-drive. I don't think this is correct. I think that the HJ61 is an updated version/model from the HJ60, with both models coming in LHD or RHD depending upon country of sale and release dates.

Any input, oh MUD-Gods?

HJ60 from production start until production end (Round and Square headlight) had the Diesel badge.(LHD and RHD)

HJ61 from production start until production end(Round and Square headlight) had the Turbo badge.(LHD and RHD)

Pretty crazy!

Was it the same in all markets (the headlights and badges, not the LHD/RHD)?

And did the production model years overlap? Was it like you could go to a dealer and order/buy one or the other at one point in time?

And, were the round headlight models always similar in the interior to the US FJ60s (square'ish dash), and the square headlight models always similar to the US FJ62s (roundish dash, etc.)?

That would make sense as I have two foreign HJ61s, one JDM and one Aussie, both with "turbo" badges on front.

One other question Sved:

Was the major difference the engine, with HJ60s being 2H and HJ61s being 12HT?

HJ60 and HJ61 crossed over years in Japan and I would imagine other parts of the world which sold them both.
HJ61 had a different interior than the HJ60 other than that similar all around high roof option in Japan for both.

The earlier HJ61 ('85-'87) had the same interior as a HJ60.Only difference were the Turbo lights in the rev counter.
The later Hj61 had the same interior as the later HJ60 and FJ62(curved dash).
From 85 to 90 you could order both models at the dealer.(HJ60 and HJ61),in some european country's.
Some country's only offered one of the models.
Sweden never got the HJ61,but we had the HJ60 with high roof (8 seater) and barn door option and full floater with slip-diff.

The 6* series is a very diverse model that differs greatly between markets. My HJ61 had a bench seat up front but had turbo woven into the seat material and was a fairly plain example, like many HJ60.But I have seen HJ60 with many options almost to the point of being a Sahara model.

For badges. ,I think a turbo and diesel badge next to it would look cool.

Do you have a pic of that bench seat up front? I've always liked the idea of doing that. Are they a common item in Aus? Are they crossed over into other Toyota's?
