Thoughts on this purchase. Just put deposit down to purchase this weekend. Private seller. 2006, 217k miles. Excellent condition inside and out. If I had to be picky, only issue is horizontal crack on dash. 69 service records with Lexus since new. Due for timing belt and water pump, last completed at 125k. Newer tires and brakes. We've agreed to $7400 should my visual inspection goes well. Price seem reasonable given it needs TB and WP?

I recommend blue driver or similar OBD2 scanner to check for codes/erased codes and a digital paint thickness meter. Then, if it passes all that plus my visual inspection then I pay a mechanic 120 bucks to make sure. Several GX I looked at had the emission codes erased and my scanner caught that.

TB and WP can be done for about $600 to $900 total if you know a good independent mechanic. Buy the Asin WP/TB kit online for under $200 and then find a mechanic that will install for under $500.

i think dash replacement on your own dime is spendy.

Check for pending/erased codes with a good Bluetooth code reader. Not all codes are bad, so don’t freak out on the loose gas cap code.
