I have a 2002 LC with the cd changer in the arm rest. I use the cassette player adapter to play slacker and Pandora and Sirius radio through the radio with my phone. Last night I had it all hooked up , wife calls me and I answer...through the radio. We chat the whole way home...I.had no idea I could use my phone hands free through the cassette player in this car..but it worked

I assume you have an iPhone... Not sure how the Droid phones work.
You can use any headset/earbuds as a hands-free. The voice will come through the headphones. Yours just happened to be routed through the stereo at the time of the call. The outbound voice microphone will continue to be the speakerphone mic on the phone.
