I took yet another stab at replacing the PHH today, only to again be thwarted. Although it's a tight spot and all it's the clamp at the block that's the giving me the most trouble. The ears are facing to the rear and I cannot get pliers on them to squeeze and loosen the clamp. Today I tried a Dremel but just could not get the right angle. Today I approached this from below and above.

The hose is soft with a slight bulge so I know it's time to deal with this. The PHH must be replaced within the next couple of weeks because we have a couple of long trips coming up so either I manage to knock it out one weekend or it goes to a shop.

When you figure it out I'll let you do mine for a little extra practice...

Actually, I'm not even going to worry about mine until it starts leaking.

Did you pull the plastic splash guard out of the wheel well?
I did that and also bent the wheel well just a little but up, from there out it was easy access (relatively).
Just for clarity pull the front wheel, rip the slash guard out, bend the wheel well slightly.

Splash guard is long gone. I had it on two jack stands, front wheel off, pulled bolt holding tranny dipstick tube but I can't seem to find the right approach. I'm going back after it this weekend. I found an odd tool that I'd forgotten I had that may help. Maybe. Or not. I may just yank the intake and go at from above. Last thing I need is for this hose to blow and strand my family and I in some place like Corinth, MS.

It's gonna happen today. I'm about 3 hrs into this and way past the point of no return. I'm skipping the hard line and running a long soft line. I could not reach the top bolt of the hardline. I went after it with a 1/4" drive ratchet with a small extension. Just could not see/feel the bolt head well enough to get the socket on securely. I whacked away at the clamp at the block with a dremel until I had whacked enough of it off to be able to slice the hose. I think I went through a dozen discs in doing this because often I would snap 'em on something.

I'm at the point where the hose and clamps are out and the hard line has been pried away. Just have to put it back together.

Done, but not without more complications. Tube on the heater control valve snapped so now I need to source a replacement. The original PHH did not look that bad, this may have been a case of "if it ain't broke don't fix it." But I can at least set forth on the upcoming trips without worrying about the PHH.

DANG!
