PFRAN LED buyers remorse...Anyone else?

I 'think" I know which panel light you speak of, but let me confirm. it's the part where I'm trying to make it fit into that opening that is driving me nuts, so I can't say I comprehend your comment re the adapter.

I can snap a pic tonight if that would help but check out this URL:

The LED panels labeled DOME are the ones for the 2nd row and cargo area. Maybe you have a different cargo light but on mine I just popped the panel off, removed the double sided tape from LED panel, plugged it into the adapter (looks like a light, has 2 metal ends and a cord sticking out of it) and plugged the adapter into the normal light posts.

Just echoing that one, I love the pack and two, they can be bright.
Depending on what you are doing what @anhizer and @larryt are suggesting is really the best. You can carry several different color gels and then based on the situation change them up. I like the brightness when I'm loading kids or dogs in at night or using the third row. But if you out in the back country you can use different colors to tone it down. One color for the front light and one for the back even. I run the red in the maps up front for that reason. Really becomes a pretty flexible solution that way.

Does anyone have a picture of the color gel installed? Do you apply it to the outside of the lens?

Cut it to fit the inside of the lens.

This is the dome light cover over the center console. I wanted the outer lights to stay brighter, so I cut the piece to cover the LED panel only.

You get a rough idea of the color temp difference with and without the gel.

I love the kit. I bought it so we would have brighter, whiter light. That's exactly what we got. Personally, when I want light, I want as much as possible so I can see the best and then shut it off. I thought the kit came with red lights for the map lights to preserve your night vision, you know, for when you're searching for El Chapo at night in the woods. The cool thing is if the light is too bright you can... turn it off, these are accessory lights. Reverse lights are kick ass too.

Superbrightleds.com should have the lights in other colors. Pfran just gathered them all into a kit so we didn't have to search for them all. You should be able to buy them in amber or other colors if the light is too bright.

I know you're hating on LED's here and not Pfran but you should have left him out of this. Your remorse is with LED's...

I love my PFran lights; now do you want the color of the 2nd row? non white light?

Yes.

Hence the term "remorse"... :)

People seem to confuse "brightness" with "quality of light".

A pure white light (6500K+) may seem impressive at first, but it can also be fatiguing to look at over time. Warmer whites (3000K) tend to add a lot more of a yellowish tint, but can be a lot easier on the eyes.

I wanted more light output than the OEM bulbs, and I knew there was a risk with the PFRAN kit because LEDs tend to be very white color. Some LED manufacturers will actually coat the diodes in yellow tint in an attempt to reduce the color temperature.

Ultimately, I like the increased light output but do not like the harshness of the "pure white" bulbs.... so I'm going to tweak it a bit with those color gels and get the best of both worlds. :)

I've had mine for a couple years now, no remorse, it was a good buy and they're freaking blinding like I wanted them - originally.

I dunno if anyone else has had issues with theirs tough, but both my 2nd and 3rd row panel LEDs have not held up over time. Both panels have lost over 80% of their output and the remaining few bulbs still lit, flicker (especially the 3rd row). Paul sent me out some replacements and even those ones eventually did the same thing after a few months. Haven't looked into alternatives yet, but I recall it being a very tight fit to get those inside there, maybe something a tad smaller will work.

I'm gonna look into some color tint for the front map lights - now THOSE are blinding at night while driving!

I'll confirm in a day or so, since it's 1000 degrees in my garage, but I think my disconnect is connecting the power to the actual bulb.

Let me look before you jump to any photos, and confirm I have that bulb, I'm pretty sure i do, but it's been a month or so.

Check the Pfran pics before ordering. The kit is as advertised. Bright as hell for a purpose. Not ambience lighting.

Nope. I installed mine a few months ago in the LC and I love them. My wife is eager for me to upgrade hers in the LX which I plan to do very soon.

I need the power. I would honestly take more if I could get it. Need to be able to see things like shell casings and such in the dark of night.

my front and center Pfrans are avail - ship them for free to anyone who PM's me.....

take the panel with the adapter. Squeeze the ends of the adapter together insert into the hole in the middle there and then take off the backing tape and just press that over top of it. It will stick to the 4 screws. You can insert one end of the adapter in the hole push and insert then it will expand back out making contact with the other metal post. before you press the panel with the tape on check it comes on. you might have to connect the panel to the adapter I can't remember if it comes connected to the adapter or not

Ok, thanks, I appreciate the confirmation. I had a problem with that the first time and it could well be that one panel was bad, but it felt sort of awkward trying it so a) I could have done it wrong b) there were other issues involved. I'm going to give it another shot and I'll report back.

Thanks Costal!

No problem... Also if it doesn't come on flip the connector and try the opposite way. I cant remember is that adapter is sensitive to the neg / pos
sides some of the LED bulbs are so if it doesn't work the first thing to do is generally flip them and try again.
