It looks like 1 of the permissions could allow ih8mud.com app to use the droid phone to take pictures of whatever the phone with seeing. What's up with that?

...not sure I understand...

The app allows you to upload photos from your gallery or to take a new photo while in the app and upload that.

The permissions are standard for how this or any other forum-type app would interact.

I didn't discribe very well. Here are a couple thousand words:
SC20111117-143036.webp
SC20111117-143053.webp

so, you don't want the option to take photos and upload them to the forum via the mobile app?

Of course I do. However, unless I'm reading it wrong the app's permissions allow the app to take pics with my droid, and I don't like that very much.

I think a school district got in a lot of trouble recently for doing something similar with software on laptops issued to students. I don't think the same concerns are valid here (i.e. No gov't action and no children), but it looks like the app has the same capacity.

The permissions are standardized per the developer, ForumRunner. And, the fact that it's noted as a warning means that if you disagree with any of the permissions, you don't have to download.

FAR worse would be allowing the access to the camera, and not including that within the permissions :)

Yeah, I agree.

Thats why I thought I'd ask before I downloaded and installed. I'm uncomfortable with a developer somewhere having the capability to turn on my camera and see what's going on. That's kinda creepy.

Fortunately the G-II-S is good enough to handle Mud on the web browser...

Think maybe you should post a notice about that somewhere, given your logo is all over the app? Or maybe have a talk with forum runner?

The 'MUD logo is all over it since I paid for the app, and will continue paying for it's yearly renewal. It's free to members because I cover the cost up front.

The app has permissions. If someone disagrees with them, don't download. Period.

I personally like the fact I can type a reply, and then instantly take the photo and upload it. I don't have to rely on photos stored on my SD card.

Really, it's a phrasing difference...the process for the Facebook app is nearly identical. They simply phrase it as 'accessing your SD card'.
