I have ideas how to fix this but how can I keep it from comming back.It looks to have been repaired/covered up once before but it came back through. It also looks like a bunch of kids jumped around on the roof and someone beat out the dents from the inside...with a broom handle. But Im not worried about that ;p

Anyone have any helpfull hints or words of wisdom :D

I don't believe in pinochle
and I don't believe I'll try.
I do believe in captain crunch
For I am the frizzle fry

Next time before andy goes painting green again, you'll have to bring it down to bare metal and patch any holes. Otherwise there are rust inhibitors like POR15 that will slow it down a bit, but resistance is futile. It will keep coming back without removal, some people go as far as roof grafts from donor vehicles.

I assume there is no headliner or insulation if the roof is beaten from the inside. You can grind the rust out or hit it with acid, but you might be left with steel foil.

:D

I am prolly gonna patch all the holes.Im just wondering about the spots where there are no holes yet.I have used spray in rust inhibitors in hard to reach areas on cars with no rust but this is a bit different.I guess I will look around for something to spray up in there after I have made my repairs.I thought about getting a roof but I am sure there is someone out there that needs it worse than me:D

Yup,there is no headliner. But there is a lip all the way around the inside so you cant really get to the back side without removing the lip.

Thanks,
Chris

you should look at the restoration done by buckroseau aka Matt on the 45 owners forum and do a search on roof or something. the roofs of these cruisers are very detailed and i can say without a doubt and from currently owing a rusty 55 that if you do not really do your home work and do the work your rust will come back. i seriously think about turning it upside down and pouring some rust converter or something into the roof cracks bc i can't think of any other way but what buck did and that is way too much work. go look and you will be amazed. thats my 4 cents.

Thanks :D I will go look in the 45 forum.

After I make my repairs Im thinkin maybe I might put some rust converter in one of those pump garden sprayers and shoot it up over that lip.I have even given thought to cutting that lip off all the way around the inside so I can get in there good with a converter and then seal it.Cutting that lip off seems like alot of work but it might be the best way to get to all the rust really good.

If you are close enough to me I would take that roof off of your hands.I think I would rather put in patches than do a whole roof.

I was looking at it last night and it looks like someone gooped a bunch of bondo over alot of older rust holes down both sides :D So alot of patches might be in order.

You should post up the wanted ads here in the 55 forum and also in the main forum. Someone close may have just what you need to replace the entire roof. My 55 is from CO and the roof was perfect as an eggshell.... until a pear tree fell on it and then some guy stood on my roof with a chainsaw and dented it more than the tree itself. Bad cruiser Juju I guess. HTH,
