I bought the parts because they are so cheap, and it needs to be done, however I have heard/read that it can be a real pain in the butt. Any tips, tricks or suggestions on the subject?

I assume it's about the same on a 62 as it was on my 60.

Toughest part was getting the old grommet out. It tore into several pieces, and it was a real challenge not letting them fall into the engine. I stuffed a piece of cloth in past it, and worked slow.

Also, there are issues with some of the aftermarket PCV valves being slightly too big. I tried two aftermarket valves, neither fit. OEM dropped right in.

Tip 1:

When removing the old grommet, move and turn the valve to be replaced around in the grommet for a few minutes with pliers to loosen the grommet up a bit.

Tip 2:

Take a heat gun and warm the old one up or do the above on a warm/hot engine.

Then loosen and pry the old one one slowly and carefully and it will come out in one piece...

Do it with the engine hot.

I got it done, and it went smoothly enough. I do not notice any change except for lack of stainage around the grommet but it makes me feel better. The outer edges of the grommet broke into pieces as I flexed the valve in an effort to loosen it, but the inner donut stayed in one piece so I could get it out with long nose pliers.
Like RockDoc says, do it with the engine hot. Use some long bent nose pliers and something under for leverage, then apply massive man muscles.
FYI:
Beck Arnley part # 0396428 is a drop in OEM size grommet that fits perfect.
Standard part # V281 is a high quality OEM spec PCV valve that aslo fits perfect.
